Dear friends and colleagues,
We wanted to share an important development from last week.
Last Tuesday, 17 February, a criminal complaint for money laundering was filed in Spain against the Spanish online travel agency eDreams for alleged profits from holiday rentals in illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory and the occupied Syrian Golan.
The case uses the anti-money laundering avenue. This shifts the focus from the underlying business activity alone to the financial flows that sustain the economy of occupation.
The complaint was filed by the Spanish civil society organisations NOVACT, SUDS, and Comité de Solidaridad con la Causa Árabe, with legal representation by Centro Guernica 37. This action forms part of a broader effort of different organisations to address the role of online travel platforms in facilitating and profiting from settlement tourism, and is closely connected to ongoing proceedings against companies such as Booking.com in other jurisdictions, including the Netherlands. SOMO has supported the case through investigation and advocacy efforts.
Importantly, research, monitoring, and advocacy already appear to have already had an effect: the company (https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/society-equity/edreams-has-blocked-accommodation-listings-israeli-occupied-west-bank-2025-09-02/) has progressively withdrawn these listings. While this is a victory from years of scrutiny, removing listings does not repair the harm caused, and accountability is still required for past violations.
Please help amplify the case through your networks and platforms, and reach out if you would like more information or to explore possible collaboration. More info here. https://www.somo.nl/profiting-from-tourism-in-illegal-israeli-settlements/
