OASis in Yerevan 2026 — Open Call for Artists

Today Art Initiative is launching the second edition of OASis, establishing a new creative and community-centered space in Yerevan following the first OASis residency in Talin, Aragatsotn region.

OASis operates as a multidisciplinary platform spread across multiple spaces within the park, combining artistic creation, community engagement, education, and social activation.

The Yerevan residency will take place between August and September 2026, with each selected artist participating in one residency session of approximately two weeks.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome artists interested in developing participatory and socially engaged practices.

This edition of OASis focuses on air pollution and the broader question of air as a shared environmental condition. We invite artistic approaches that engage with air as a material, condition, atmosphere, or invisible presence.

Final artworks developed during the residency will contribute to ongoing public and artistic discussions around environmental awareness and urban ecology.

We are looking for artists working across a wide range of disciplines, including:

New media art
Installation art
Sound art
Bio art
Textile and material practices
Visual arts

Artists from any other discipline are equally welcome. We highly value multidisciplinarity and are open to any practice capable of generating meaningful impact within the community.

Residency Activities

We invite applicants to propose concrete ideas for their time at OASis.

Possible activities may include:

Workshops
Co-creation sessions
Community-based artistic projects
Public interventions

Applicants are encouraged to approach the residency with creative freedom. What matters most is meaningful engagement with the local community and the development of relevant artistic outputs connected to the local context.

The specific focus and structure of each residency will be discussed and refined during the selection process.

Կատարինա Գրիվուլի (katarina gryvul) ռեզիդենտությունը Ռեննում ✨

Հետադարձ հայացք Կատարինա Գրիվուլի ռեզիդենտությանը Ռեննում, որի ընթացքում նա TT8 նախագծի շրջանակում իրականացրեց դաշտային ձայնագրություններ և արվեստային հետազոտություն։ Ռեզիդենտությունն ավարտվեց Artist Talk & Workshop-ով, որը համախմբեց 17 մասնակիցների։

Կանանց և գենդերային փոքրամասնությունների համար նախատեսված այս աշխատարանը (ոչ խառը ձևաչափով՝ գիտակցված ընտրությամբ) ստեղծեց ավելի անվտանգ միջավայր փորձի փոխանակման, փոխադարձ աջակցության և էլեկտրոնային ու փորձարարական երաժշտության ոլորտում ինքնահզորացման համար։

Artist Talk & Workshop-ի ընթացքում մասնակիցները ծանոթացան․
• Կատարինայի արվեստային հետազոտության ընթացքին՝ կապելով Ռեննում կատարված դաշտային ձայնագրությունները (ներառյալ Parc du Thabor-ի ձայնային միջավայրի ուսումնասիրությունները) TT8-ի տվյալների և նրա կատարողական աշխատանքի հետ,
• գործնական մոտեցումներին՝ արվեստագետի ինքնությունը հաստատելու, սեփական նախագիծը ներկայացնելու և փորձարարական երաժշտության ոլորտում մասնագիտական տեսանելիություն ձևավորելու վերաբերյալ,
• համատեղ ունկնդրման սեսիայի, որի ընթացքում մասնակիցները ներկայացրին իրենց ստեղծագործությունները և ստացան անմիջական արձագանքներ ու խորհուրդներ,
• բաց քննարկումների՝ փառատոնների և լեյբլների սպասելիքների, ինչպես նաև լեգիտիմության և մասնագիտական դիրքավորման հարցերի շուրջ։

Մասնակիցները բարձր գնահատեցին աշխատարանի աջակցող մթնոլորտը, Կատարինայի հստակ և օգտակար ուղեցույցները, ինչպես նաև անմիջական հետադարձ կապ ստանալու հնարավորությունը՝ ընդգծելով, թե ինչպես կարող են արվեստային միջնորդավորումն ու գիտելիքի փոխանակումը նպաստել վստահության, հմտությունների և համայնքային կապերի ամրապնդմանը՝ միաժամանակ աջակցելով ընթացիկ արվեստային հետազոտությանը։

Inside Katarina Gryvul’s () residency in Rennes ✨

Take a look back at Katarina Gryvul’s residency in Rennes, where she carried out field recording and artistic research within the framework of TT8. The residency culminated in an Artist Talk & Workshop that welcomed 17 participants.

Designed as a women and gender minorities-only workshop (a non-mixed space by choice), the session created a safer environment for exchange, peer support, and empowerment within electronic and experimental music.

During the Artist Talk & Workshop, participants engaged with:
• Katarina’s artistic research process, connecting field recordings in Rennes (including explorations of local soundscapes such as Parc du Thabor) with TT8 data and her performance work,
• practical insights on affirming artistic identity, articulating a project, and building professional visibility in experimental music scenes,
• a collective listening session where participants shared their own tracks and received direct feedback and advice,
• open discussions on the expectations of festivals and labels, and on questions of legitimacy and professional positioning.

The session was highly appreciated for its supportive format, the clarity of Katarina’s guidance, and the opportunity for direct feedback, highlighting how artistic mediation can strengthen confidence, skills, and community connection while advancing ongoing artistic research.

Ֆրակցիոնի () ռեզիդենտությունը Լյուբլյանայում ✨

Լյուբլյանայում՝ MoTA Museum-ում, իր ռեզիդենտության ընթացքում, Էրիկ Ռեյնո (Fraction)-ը ներկայացրեց TT8 նախագծի շրջանակում զարգացվող իր արվեստային աշխատանքը՝ ցուցադրելով ընթացքի մեջ գտնվող ինստալացիա, որտեղ տարածքը ձևավորվում է թվային վիզուալներով և լուսային միջամտություններով։

During his residency in Ljubljana at MoTA Museum, Eric Raynaud (Fraction) presented his artistic work developed within the framework of the TT8 project, sharing an installation-in-progress where the space is shaped through digital visuals and light interventions.

NEXA ART FESTIVAL — OPEN CALL (VOLUNTEERS)

NEXA invites volunteers to join the organizational process of the festival, which will take place September 3–8 in Yerevan.
We are looking for people who want to step into the “behind-the-scenes” world of contemporary art by supporting exhibition development, installation setup, visitor coordination, and the overall building of the festival.

«Միջեվրոպական ուղևորություններ» նախագծի շրջանակում ներկայացնում ենք այն հեղինակներին, որոնց ստեղծագործությունները ընտրվել են թարգմանության
համար՝ եվրոպական լեզուներով, եվրոպական հրատարակիչների հետ համագործակցությամբ։Նրանց թվում է հայ գրող եւ սցենարիստ Համբարձում Համբարձումյանը։
Ծնված 1984 թվականին՝ Համբարձում Համբարձումյանը պատկանում է այն սերնդի հեղինակներին, որոնց բախտ է վիճակվել ապրել եւ ստեղծագործել այնպիսի փոփոխության ժամանակաշրջանում, ինչպիսին մի հասարակարգից մյուսին անցումն է։ Իր գրականության մեջ նա արտացոլում է այդ փոփոխությունների ընթացքը հասարակության առանձին շերտերի եւ անհատի մտածողության մակարդակում։ Նրա
ստեղծագործությունները բացահայտում են հասարակական ու քաղաքական ճգնաժամերի ազդեցությունը հասարակ մարդկանց առօրյա կյանքում՝ ժամանակի ոգուն հատուկ իրոնիայով, հումորով ու տխրությամբ։ Համբարձումյանի գեղարվեստական լեզվի վրա ազդեցություն է գործել
սցենարագրության փորձը․ նա համադրում է պատկերային մտածողությունը բուն գրական խնդիրների հետ։ Նրա պատմությունները հաճախ ծնվում են ժամանակակից

Համբարձումյանի ստեղծագործությունները թարգմանվել են մի շարք լեզուներով և ընդգրկվել տարբեր անթոլոգիաներում՝ արժանանալով բազմաթիվ հեղինակավորգրական մրցանակների, որոնց թվում են «Նախագահի երիտասարդական

Within the framework of the Trans-European Journeys project, we present the authors whose works have been selected for translation into European languages, in collaboration with European publishers.

Among them is Armenian writer and screenwriter Hambardzum Hambardzumyan.

Born in 1984, Hambardzum Hambardzumyan belongs to the generation of authors whose fate it was to live and create during a period of profound transition — the shift from one social system to another. In his literary work, he reflects the course of these transformations both within different layers of society and at the level of individual consciousness. His writings reveal the impact of social and political crises on the everyday lives of ordinary people, marked by the irony, humor, and melancholy characteristic of the spirit of the time.
Hambardzumyan’s artistic language has been strongly influenced by his experience in screenwriting; he combines visual thinking with distinctly literary concerns. His stories often emerge from the marginal spaces of contemporary Armenian reality — culturally undervalued places, subcultural communities, and human destinies shaped and distorted by political and social change.
Hambardzumyan’s works have been translated into several languages and included in various anthologies, earning numerous prestigious literary awards, including the President’s Youth Award (2007) and the first prize of the Yerevan Book Festival in the “Prose” category (2017).
His short film Korean Delicacy, based on the story of the same title, also brought his literary world into cinema, receiving festival recognition, including the Gennadi Melkonyan Award for Best Armenian Short Film at the Golden Apricot International Film Festival (2022), as well as the award for Best Screenplay at the Yerevan International Short Film and Student Film Festival.
Hambardzum Hambardzumyan is also the co-founder of the literary platform Groghutsav (together with writer Arpi Voskanyan), which has contributed to the development of contemporary Armenian literature through its engagement with urgent political and social themes.
Hambardzumyan's latest book, Thigh(2024), continues to expand the defining features of his literary path, re-examining social, political, and cultural questions through literature.

Էլևսինայում իր ռեզիդենտության ընթացքում MAOTIK-ը (Mathieu Le Sourd) (maotik) ուսումնասիրում էր քաղաքի երկակիությունը՝ հին ժառանգության և արդյունաբերական միջավայրի միջև՝ տվյալահեն ու իմերսիվ մոտեցման միջոցով։

During his residency in Eleusis, MAOTIK (Mathieu Le Sourd) (maotik explored the city’s duality between ancient heritage and industry through a data-driven, immersive approach.

Using real-time location data — weather, temperature, and air quality — alongside his custom-built tools, he shaped an installation-in-progress where environment, technology, and perception meet.

2026 թվականի սեպտեմբերին Երևանում առաջին անգամ կկայանա NEXA միջազգային ժամանակակից արվեստի փառատոնը՝ նոր շարժական հարթակ, որը միավորում է ժամանակակից արվեստը, միջավայրը և տարածական փորձառությունները։

NEXA 2026-ի առաջին թողարկումը կենտրոնանում է օդի աղտոտվածության, քաղաքի մթնոլորտի և անտեսանելի էկոլոգիական գործընթացների վրա՝ ուսումնասիրելով, թե ինչպես է օդը ձևավորում մարդու մարմինը, տարածքային ընկալումը և առօրյա փորձառությունը։

Փառատոնը կներկայացնի ժամանակակից արվեստի տարբեր ձևաչափեր՝ ինստալյացիաներ, մեդիա արվեստ, սաունդ արվեստ, բիո արվեստ, տեքստիլ և նյութական պրակտիկաներ, ինչպես նաև միջդիսցիպլինար նախագծեր՝ միջազգային և տեղացի արվեստագետների մասնակցությամբ։

NEXA — International Contemporary Art Festival Launches in Armenia for the First Time

In September 2026, the first edition of the NEXA International Contemporary Art Festival will take place in Yerevan. NEXA is a new moving platform bringing together contemporary art, environment, and spatial experience.

The inaugural edition of NEXA 2026 focuses on air pollution, the atmosphere of the city, and invisible ecological processes, exploring how air shapes the human body, spatial perception, and everyday experience.

The festival will present a wide range of contemporary artistic practices, including installations, media art, sound art, bio art, textile and material practices, as well as interdisciplinary projects featuring both local and international artists.

NEXA approaches air not only as a natural element, but also as a political, social, and sensory condition connecting people, the city, and nature.

The festival was chosen to take place in Yerevan because air pollution has become a serious issue affecting the city and everyday life. This year’s edition aims to create a dialogue between contemporary art and ecological reality, drawing attention to air quality, environmental conditions, and the interactions shaping urban experience.

NEXA 2026 seeks to establish a new international platform in Armenia by bringing together contemporary art, research-based practices, and public discourse.
