BESTbelt Project “Sustainable grazing for the preservation of vital grasslands ecosystems” successfully completed
The Institute for Nature Conservation in Albania (INCA Albania) has successfully completed the BESTbelt-funded project“Sustainable Grazing for the Preservation of Vital Grasslands Ecosystems” in the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park, an important section of the Balkan branch of the European Green Belt. The project aimed to support the conservation of valuable alpine grassland habitats through sustainable grazing practices while improving the livelihoods of local shepherds and rural communities.
Implemented in partnership with Agro - Eko Dibra, the project addressed one of the key challenges facing mountain grassland ecosystems: the gradual decline and abandonment of traditional grazing practices. By working directly with local shepherds and communities, the project explored both the ecological and socio-economic factors influencing grazing activities and identified practical measures to support their continuation.
