🔴PUBLIC STATEMENT
ON SERIOUS CRIMES WITHIN THE FAMILY
The Albanian Centre for Family Development expresses its deep indignation and utmost concern regarding the recent incidents of extreme violence and serious crimes within the family, which are profoundly shaking Albanian society and severely undermining safety, human life, and human dignity.
According to the World Health Organization, violence and crime within the family constitute one of the most serious public health problems and grave violations of human rights. The escalation of this phenomenon carries a high social and human cost, affecting not only the families directly involved, but society as a whole.
What is happening to the Albanian family?
The repeated cases of killings and extreme violence within the family cannot and must not be treated as isolated incidents. These are alarming signs of serious failures in prevention, institutional response, and protection mechanisms.
Each recurring case of violence or crime within the family is also a consequence of institutional inaction, lack of coordination, and failure to protect citizens’ lives.
ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMMEDIATE RESPONSE
Responsibility is collective, but accountability is institutional.
It is the duty of the STATE, CENTRAL and LOCAL INSTITUTIONS, as well as RELIGIOUS and SOCIAL COMMUNITIES, to cooperate and undertake immediate and concrete actions to prevent violence and crimes within the family.
PUBLIC APPEAL TO INSTITUTIONS
🔴 Ministry of Health and Social Protection
To address this phenomenon as a national priority, by strengthening prevention, protection, and rehabilitation mechanisms, and by ensuring real, accessible, and effective services for victims and survivors. Any negligence is unacceptable.
🔴 Ministry of Justice and law enforcement institutions
To engage without tolerance and without delay, strengthen punitive measures, and enforce the law rigorously. Delayed justice is denied justice.
🔴 Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth
To sustainably integrate education on the prevention of family violence through school curricula and extracurricular activities, shaping generations with a strong sense of citizenship, responsibility, respect, and equality.
🔴 Local Government Institutions
To increase attention and inter-institutional coordination, intervene at early stages of risk, and provide continuous care and concrete support for victims. Local inaction has fatal consequences.
🔴 State Police
To enforce the law without compromise and intensify national campaigns for the collection and control of fi****ms, which continue to pose a serious threat to citizens’ lives.
🔴 Religious Institutions
To carry out their moral and social mission by promoting peace, love, respect, and coexistence as fundamental values in every community.
🔴 Visual and Online Media
To report cases with ethics, responsibility, and professionalism, respecting victims’ privacy and prioritizing educational content that contributes to the prevention of violence.
APPEAL TO PARENTS AND FAMILIES
The Albanian Centre for Family Development calls on parents to show greater commitment to family life, with more love, communication, mutual understanding, and respect.
Violence and crime within the family are not private matters. They are crimes. They are unacceptable and must be prevented, punished, and confronted without compromise by every actor in society.
