We are proud to congratulate Leonita Memeti from Kosovo, one of the winners of the Essay Competition – “A Writeathon for Democratic Development and European Integration”, for her powerful and thoughtful contribution. In her reflection, Leonita shared that this competition was more than writing an essay — it was a journey of responsibility, empathy, and perspective. Through writing, research, and reflection, she explored how words can challenge stigma, give voice to silenced experiences, and foster understanding.

Leonita emphasized that engaging with literature helped her see history not only as memory, but as a call for accountability, reminding us that survivors deserve not only justice, but also compassion and dignity.
"For me, this competition was not only about writing an essay, but about shaping perspective, emotion, and responsibility. Through writing, research, and reflection, I learned that words have the power to confront stigma, give voice to silenced experiences, and build understanding.
Reading and reflecting on history helped me see that trauma is not an abstract topic, but a human reality that demands accountability, compassion, and dignity. The joint training with youth from Albania made this journey even more meaningful, showing how much we share in our hopes, values, and determination to build a better future. This experience taught me one powerful truth: when young people write, study, and reflect together, they don’t just create essays — they create change. 🖊️ Sindi Hotaj Fituese – Writeathon për Zhvillimin Demokratik dhe Integrimin Evropian

“Eseja ime fokusohet te roli i të rinjve në thyerjen e stereotipeve në Ballkan — një rajon i pasur në histori, por i ngarkuar me narrativa të trashëguara që shpesh ndikojnë mënyrën se si e shohim njëri-tjetrin. Besoj se brezi i ri ka një përgjegjësi të veçantë: jo për të harruar historinë, por për të mos mbetur peng i saj. Thyerja e stereotipeve nuk ndodh përmes mohimit, por përmes njohjes, reflektimit kritik dhe dialogut të ndershëm.”

💬 Për Sindin, pjesëmarrja në këtë konkurs ishte një hapësirë reflektimi dhe artikulimi të ideve që synojnë të kontribuojnë në një debat më të shëndetshëm për të ardhmen e rajonit. Mesazhi i saj thekson fuqinë e zërit të të rinjve për të ndërtuar ura mirëkuptimi dhe bashkëpunimi.

Besoj se arti dhe kultura luajnë një rol kyç në nxitjen e të rinjve për t’u angazhuar në shoqëri dhe në vendimmarrje. Shpesh supozojmë se të rinjtë janë apatike, por a u kemi dhënë vërtet hapësirë për të ndikuar, për t’u shprehur dhe për të marrë iniciativa? Celebrating Insightful Essays and Youth Perspectives ✨

Over the weekend, WDN Albania and Assist Kosovo concluded the Award Ceremony of the essay competition supported by the Regional Youth Cooperation Office (RYCO), highlighting powerful reflections by young authors on culture, regional cooperation, and European integration in the Western Balkans.

🏆 First Prize Winners

Oriada Dajko impressed the jury with an essay exploring the role of cultural heritage in youth engagement in society, highlighting how education, creativity, and intergenerational dialogue can empower young people as active citizens.
Oriada is a journalist and media and cultural project coordinator whose work focuses on human rights, gender equality, minorities, and collective memory, with publications in both Albanian and international media.

Sindi Hotaj presented a thought-provoking essay on youth and regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, challenging inherited narratives and emphasizing the role of dialogue and youth-to-youth connection in building trust across the region.
She has studied International Relations and currently works as an editor for an international media outlet, with a strong academic background in human rights and humanitarian law.

Leonita Memeti addressed cultural diversity and European integration, focusing on human rights, post-conflict reconciliation, and the importance of inclusive narratives for Kosovo’s European path.
Originally from Kosovo and now based in the United States, Leonita is pursuing studies in Criminal Justice, Global Studies, and Human Rights, with research interests centered on survivor-centered justice and peacebuilding.

🎖️ Special Recognition Awards

The Evaluation Committee also granted symbolic awards to three authors in recognition of the distinct strengths of their essays:

Xhesilda Zeqiri – Literary Talent Award, for expressive power and narrative sensitivity.

Markela Popshini – Critical Thinking Award, for analytical depth and clarity of argumentation.

Arita Sverka – Civic Engagement Award, for a responsible, reflective, and socially engaged approach.

The ceremony opened with welcoming remarks by Visare Berisha, Executive Director of ASSIST Kosovo, who emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and youth engagement in shaping a more connected Western Balkans.

We were also honored to have Ms. Mirela Alhasani, Jury member and moderator, whose thoughtful moderation enriched the discussion and reflection around the essays.

Our sincere gratitude goes to RYCO, our donor and key supporter, as well as to all partners, participants, and contributors who made this initiative possible.

The Western Balkans Youth Cultural Fund is a multi-year project of RYCO, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, and focuses on cultural practitioners and civil society organizations working with youth and culture in the Western Balkans.

Ceremonia e Çmimeve – Konkursi i Eseve për Zhvillimin Demokratik dhe Integrimin Evropian ✨

Sot, Rrjeti për Demokraci i Gruas – WDN Albania, në bashkëpunim me Assist Kosovo, organizoi Ceremoninë e Çmimeve dhe Prezantimin e Eseve Fitues në kuadër të projektit: “ Writeathon for Democratic Development and European Integration”, mbështetur nga RYCO dhe Western Balkans Youth Cultural Fund (WBYCF).

Eventi u moderua me profesionalizëm dhe ndjeshmëri nga Mirela Dubali Alhasani, duke krijuar një hapësirë të hapur dialogu, reflektimi dhe shkëmbimi idesh mes të rinjve nga Shqipëria dhe Kosova.

🏆 Çmimet kryesore u ndanë për esenë më të mirë duke vlerësuar mendimin kritik, qartësinë argumentuese dhe kontributin në promovimin e vlerave demokratike dhe integrimit evropian:

🥇 Çmimi i Parë – Oriada Dajko
Gazetare dhe koordinatore projektesh mediatike e kulturore, me fokus në të drejtat e njeriut, barazinë gjinore, minoritetet dhe kujtesën kolektive. Eseja e saj u vlerësua për forcën analitike, ndjeshmërinë shoqërore dhe mënyrën se si ndërthur gazetarinë, kulturën dhe angazhimin qytetar.

🥈 Çmimi i Dytë – Sindi Hotaj
E diplomuar në Marrëdhënie Ndërkombëtare dhe aktualisht editore për një media ndërkombëtare. Eseja e saj u dallua për thellësinë reflektuese, sfidimin e narrativave të ngurta dhe analizën e proceseve të ndryshimit shoqëror në kontekstin ballkanik.

🥉 Çmimi i Tretë – Leonita Memeti
E re nga Kosova, e shpërngulur në SHBA në vitin 1999, aktualisht studente në Drejtësi Penale, Studime Globale dhe të Drejta të Njeriut. Eseja e saj solli një lidhje të fuqishme mes historisë personale dhe advokimit për të drejtat e njeriut, duke i dhënë zë përvojave të nënfaqësuara.

📖 Gjatë aktivitetit u bë edhe shpërndarja e librit me esetë më të mira, si një produkt përfundimtar i projektit dhe një dëshmi konkrete e fuqisë së shkrimit rinor në nxitjen e dialogut dhe bashkëpunimit rajonal.

Ceremonia vijoi me një sesion reflektimi për të rinjtë. Visare Berisha, Drejtoreshë e ASSIST Kosova, theksoi rëndësinë e nismave të tilla dhe bëri një qartësim të vlefshëm mbi rolin e bashkëpunimit rajonal, si element kyç për ndërtimin e besimit dhe zhvillimin e qëndrueshëm në rajon.

Ky aktivitet realizohet me mbështetjen financiare të Fondit për Kulturën e të Rinjve të Ballkanit Perëndimor të RYCO-s, një nismë shumëvjeçare e financuar nga Ministria Gjermane e Punëve të Jashtme, që mbështet organizatat e shoqërisë civile dhe praktikuesit e kulturës në Ballkanin Perëndimor.

✍️📚 Zëri i të rinjve, mendimi kritik, shkrimi cilësor dhe bashkëpunimi rajonal mbeten shtylla kyçe për ndërtimin e një shoqërie më demokratike dhe një të ardhmeje evropiane të përbashkët.

WDN Albania, që prej vitit 2009 punon për fuqizimin e grave dhe vajzave në Shqipëri, vijon misionin për të mbrojtur dinjitetin, të drejtat dhe zërin e tyre në çdo hap.
Me këtë rast, Fashion Group Albania ka dhuruar veshje për gratë dhe vajzat në nevojë — një akt solidariteti që sjell ngrohtësi, siguri dhe besim tek ato që përballen me sfida.
