📍🌊 Building evidence through marine litter monitoring

This map shows the distribution of marine litter monitoring locations established under the – Cleaner Rivers, Cleaner Seas project in the Ishëm and Vjosa river basins.

At these locations, local CSOs have collected comparable data on the quantity, composition and potential sources of plastic pollution. Each monitoring point represents not only an activity carried out in the field, but also an important contribution to building a stronger evidence base for informed decision-making and preventive measures. 📊
Monitoring helps us better understand the scale and characteristics of pollution and supports the development of more targeted actions to prevent waste from reaching rivers and seas.

From field data to policy action, every monitoring activity brings us one step closer to cleaner aquatic ecosystems. ♻️

The project is funded by the European Union in Albania and implemented by Milieukontakt Albania (member of Milieukontakt International Network) and the Environmental and Territorial Management Institute.

🌍💪 On July 22, 2026, the third beach cleanup activity was carried out at Lalëz Public Beach under the project.

This time, volunteers from a and joined forces to collect an impressive 226 kg of waste in just one day — a clear reminder of the scale of pollution affecting our coastline.

Beyond cleanup, the activity focused on raising awareness about:

🚯 Reducing single-use plastics to prevent waste from reaching rivers and seas.

🌊 Protecting waterways like the Tarin stream, which directly impacts marine ecosystems.

♻️ Promoting sustainable habits in local communities to ensure long-term environmental health.

Every kilogram collected is a step toward a cleaner, healthier environment. Together, we are proving that collective action can drive real change. 🌟

🌍💪 On July 21, 2026, the second beach cleanup activity was organized at Lalëz Public Beach near Tarin stream under the project.

This time, our focus was not only on removing waste but also on strengthening community engagement and highlighting the importance of protecting waterways that flow into the sea.

With the dedicated efforts of volunteers from and , we took another step toward safeguarding our coastline and promoting sustainable habits.

On July 21, 2026, the 2nd monitoring activity was carried out at Public Beach near Tarin stream within the framework of the project. With the support of volunteers from and the team assessed waste levels, documented environmental conditions, and gathered valuable data to guide future actions for coastal protection.

📍The selected monitoring site was located along the Lalez coastline project.
During the activity, the presence, types and quantities of litter were observed and monitored according to the standardized beach litter monitoring protocol.

The activity aimed to provide a clearer overview of the pollution situation in the area by identifying the main types of litter, understanding their possible sources, and assessing their impact on the coastal and marine environment. It also served to promote awareness on the importance of reducing plastic waste and protecting natural ecosystems.

🔎 Key findings from the monitoring activity:
🧾 690 litter items collected per 100 meters
⚖️ 23.495 kg of waste collected in total
♻️ 17.595 kg of plastic items
🗑️ 5.9 kg of other waste

🌿 H2H Foundation pati kënaqësinë të merrte pjesë në National Activism Day 2026 – Biodiversity under Pressure: Voices that Matter, në kuadër të zbatimit të projektit Active Water II.

Aktiviteti bëri bashkë organizata të shoqërisë civile, institucione, ekspertë dhe komunitetin lokal për të diskutuar mbi sfidat që përball biodiversiteti në Shqipëri dhe rëndësinë e harmonizimit të zhvillimit me mbrojtjen e mjedisit. Mesazhi kryesor i ditës ishte se zhvillimi i qëndrueshëm ndërtohet mbi respektin për natyrën, menaxhimin e përgjegjshëm të territorit dhe përfshirjen aktive të komuniteteve në vendimmarrje.

Aktiviteti mblodhi së bashku organizata, institucione dhe qytetarë për të diskutuar rëndësinë e harmonizimit të zhvillimit me mbrojtjen e mjedisit. Në fokus ishte ruajtja e biodiversitetit, menaxhimi i qëndrueshëm i burimeve natyrore dhe roli i komuniteteve në vendimmarrje për një të ardhme më të gjelbër.

Përmes projektit Active Water II, vazhdojmë të promovojmë ndërgjegjësimin për mbrojtjen e ekosistemeve ujore, ruajtjen e biodiversitetit dhe angazhimin e komuniteteve lokale në mbrojtjen e mjedisit.
