ASPBM është krijuar në 9 tetor 1992 me fokus kryesor ruajtjen e biodiversitetit veçanërisht të shpendëve dhe gjitarëve të rrezikuar përmes rritjes së ndërgjegjësimit publik,ndërmarrjes së masave dhe nxitjen e politikave të përshtatshme për të mbrojtur speciet dhe habitatet e tyre. ASPBM ka ndërmarrë dhe zbatuar një numër të aktiviteteve dhe projekteve, nga të cilat më të fundit janë të lidhura me menaxhimin e mbrojtur zonat dhe monitorimit.
