📍Read some of the impressions below of our participant Sibora Lohja for the Youth Exchange “Navigating Through Anxiety.
🗣"In my life as a 23-year-old medical student from Albania, I’ve always been interested in mental health, particularly the challenges that young people face. One of the most transformative experiences I’ve had in this regard was my participation in the Erasmus+ youth exchange titled Navigating Social Anxiety, which took place in AciTrezza, Italy. The program focused on understanding mental health, particularly anxiety and stress, and offered tools to reduce stigma while fostering empathy and cultural exchange.
I learned how to manage anxiety, including relaxation exercises and creative activities like art. These sessions enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of myself and build greater confidence in managing stress. I realized the importance of self-care, not only in my own life but also in supporting others who struggle with mental health.
One of the most significant aspects of this experience was the increase in my self-awareness and self-confidence. Sharing personal stories with others, hearing theirs, and engaging in group activities pushed me to step outside my comfort zone.
The exchange also taught me the value of teamwork and communication. By participating in group discussions and other tasks, I improved my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds and enhanced my skills in negotiation and conflict resolution.
One of the most impactful aspects of the program was the opportunity to interact with participants from countries such as Greece, Portugal, Italy, and Poland. This exchange of ideas and experiences significantly enhanced my cultural awareness. One of the highlights was the intercultural night, where each participant shared their country’s traditions, food, and music. I proudly showcased Albanian cuisine and attire, and learned to appreciate the beauty of other cultures while reflecting on the value of preserving one’s heritage in a modern world.
This Erasmus+ exchange helped me become more culturally aware, and it deepened my understanding of mental health, particularly social anxiety. It showed me that while our cultures may differ, we all share common values such as kindness, respect, and the desire to connect. It also taught me the importance of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting empathy, not only in our personal lives but also in our communities.
Overall, the exchange was a profound learning experience that enhanced my personal and professional growth. I left with a deeper understanding of mental health, improved communication skills, and a renewed passion for advocating for mental health awareness and cultural exchange."
