This summer, heat has been more than just uncomfortable.

It has put extra strain on our bodies, especially for older people, children, outdoor workers and people living with chronic conditions. 🌡️

In coastal urban areas, like the South Adriatic, heat does not act alone. It combines with poor air quality, water stress, urban environments and other environmental pressures.

This is why MICA works on climate-health data: to better understand where risks are emerging and how they can affect people’s health. 📊

Did you know that mosquitoes can tell us how the climate is changing? 🦟
Where they appear, how many, and which species reveals rising temperatures, growing humidity and increasing disease risk. They are nature's living sensors and they don't lie.

📍That's why, starting June 1st, is tracking mosquito populations across 10 locations in Podgorica, collecting data every two weeks to map exactly where climate stress is highest and health risks are growing.

The goal? 🎯 Replace blanket city-wide interventions with targeted, evidence-based decisions, acting exactly where and when it matters.
Because precise data saves more than time. It saves lives. 🌍

🦠 Did you know that 35,000 people die every year in Europe from antibiotic-resistant infections (AMR)? That's more than influenza, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS combined!

With every +1°C, the risks linked to AMR can grow, bringing:
🌡️ Faster bacterial mutation and resistance
💧 More resistant bacteria in water and ecosystems
🐾 Greater spillover from animal to human health

This is why the project works across Italy, Albania and Montenegro with a One Health approach. Because protecting health means protecting everything that surrounds us. 🌍

That's the core of : connecting climate and health evidence across Italy, Albania and Montenegro to give policymakers the tools to move from emergency response to prevention.

Not just maps and models but the scientific foundation to:

🏥 Strengthen healthcare infrastructure before threats become emergencies
🎯 Power a Decision Support System that guides local authorities in real time

Because in the South Adriatic, the science is already here. Now it's time to use it. 🌍

+1.5°C 🌡️ That's not a projection, it’s the temperature rise already recorded in the Bari area over 16 years of monitoring data!

Data that tell a clear story:
🌡️ More tropical nights = more heat stress and cardiovascular strain
☀️ Longer dry spells = worse air quality, more respiratory conditions
💧 Unpredictable rainfall = higher flood risk and waterborne disease
🦟 Warmer, wetter conditions = more mosquitoes, more vector-borne threats

These numbers are now being cross-referenced with clinical data from the Polyclinic of Bari, turning meteorological records into real health intelligence.

This is how builds its Decision Support System: starting from what the data already shows, to help authorities across Italy, Albania and Montenegro act before risks become emergencies. 🌍

💡 Sa mund të ndikojë zëvendësimi i ndriçimit tradicional me LED në uljen e kostove të energjisë?

Në një studim të realizuar mbi një banesë 2-katëshe 3+1, u analizua ndikimi i zëvendësimit të llambave fluoreshente dhe inkandeshente me llamba LED si një masë për rritjen e eficiencës energjetike.

Rezultatet treguan se:

✅ Kostoja vjetore e ndriçimit tradicional arrin në 3,132.7 lekë/vit

✅ Pas zëvendësimit me LED, kostoja ulet në 367 lekë/vit

✅ Kursimi vjetor i arritur është 2,765.7 lekë/vit

Ky rezultat tregon se edhe ndryshime relativisht të thjeshta në sistemin e ndriçimit mund të sjellin përfitime ekonomike të qëndrueshme dhe reduktim të konsumit të energjisë në afat të gjatë.

📚 Kjo analizë bazohet në studimin mbi eficiencën energjetike në një banesë familjare 2-katëshe 3+1, realizuar nga Agollari

Every +1°C increase leads to:
🌾 Drier conditions = more airborne particles (PM10, PM2.5) that worsen air quality
💨 Worsening respiratory issues = increased asthma attacks and hospital admissions
🌍 Increased temperature = longer dry periods, which trigger more asthma symptoms
