Xhepat urbanë janë hapësira të vogla të gjelbra brenda qytetit, të menduara për të mbështetur biodiversitetin urban dhe, njëkohësisht, për të krijuar hapësira më të shëndetshme, tërheqëse dhe të dobishme për komunitetet që i përdorin çdo ditë.

Gjatë muajve të fundit, studentët e Arkitekturës së Peizazhit, së bashku me lektorin Silvi Jano, kanë analizuar zona të mundshme në Tiranë, kanë dokumentuar gjendjen ekzistuese dhe kanë zhvilluar pyetësorë e biseda me banorët për të kuptuar më mirë nevojat dhe pritshmëritë e tyre. Nga ky proces kanë lindur propozime që ndërthurin bimësinë autoktone të Tiranës dhe atë mesdhetare me mënyrat se si komuniteti dëshiron ta përdorë hapësirën.

Këtë të hënë, më 24 gusht, konceptet do të prezantohen publikisht pranë zonës së ish-Ekspozitës, ku së bashku me banorët do të diskutojmë alternativat dhe do të përcaktojmë drejtimin e ndërhyrjes që do të zhvillohet më tej.

Green Sofa #19 reflected on a broader transformation in European migration governance—one increasingly shaped by deterrence, accelerated border procedures, detention, and externalization.

The 2023 Italy–Albania agreement has become one of the first large-scale experiments in this new approach. Rather than an isolated bilateral arrangement, it is increasingly seen as a blueprint for relocating asylum procedures outside EU territory. Yet this model raises fundamental questions about accountability, access to international protection, judicial oversight, and whether European states can externalize asylum governance without externalizing responsibility.

Together with Members of the European Parliament Tineke Strik and Anna Strolenberg, and investigative journalist Kristina Millona, the conversation went beyond the technicalities of migration management. It asked what obligations European states continue to hold towards people seeking international protection, and how solidarity can remain a guiding principle of European asylum policy.

As the EU moves towards implementing the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, presented as a historic agreement to efficiently "manage migration," the new rules are increasingly centered on accelerated border procedures, arbitrary detention expanding to families with children, and mass deportations.

At the heart of these developments are the Italian-run centres in Albania, which have become the most prominent experiment in offshore migration management and a potential blueprint for future EU policies. As European institutions and several member states advance plans to establish return hubs in third countries, the Albania model has become a key reference point in debates over the future of migration governance beyond EU borders.

This panel brings together Members of the European Parliament Tineke Strik and Anna Strolenberg to discuss the implications of the Pact on the future operations under Italy–Albania agreement, and explore what these developments reveal about the future of European migration governance and the externalisation of border controls.

CoPlan and Green-AL joined forces with Heinrich Böll Stiftung Tirana for another edition of the Green Sofa series, held within the framework of Civil Society Week 2026, to explore the theme “Activism Between Continuity and Change.”

Dr. Begüm Özden Fırat, Professor at the Department of Sociology in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul, drawing on the experience of the Gezi Park uprising in Turkey, reflected on the often-overlooked outcomes of activism. Beyond immediate political victories, she emphasized the concept of learning how to struggle together—to organize collectively, sustain solidarity, even in adversity.

Oljam Dervishi, Founder & CEO of RESU, complemented this perspective by sharing his own journey as an activist in 🇦🇱, illustrating how lasting impact is built when people unite around a common cause, persevere through challenges, and remain committed to a shared vision.

The event was organized as part of Civil Society Week 2026, an initiative of the National Resource Center for Civil Society in Albania and Partners Albania for Change and Development, celebrating the role and contribution of civil society in strengthening democracy and driving positive social change.

Dr. Begüm Özden Fırat, profesore në Departamentin e Sociologjisë në Universitetin e Arteve të Bukura Mimar Sinan në Stamboll, duke reflektuar mbi përvojën e kryengritjes së Parkut Gezi në Turqi, theksoi rëndësinë e të mësuarit se si të organizohemi kolektivisht, si të ndërtojmë dhe të ruajmë solidaritetin, edhe përballë vështirësive.

Oljam Dervishi, Themelues dhe Drejtor Ekzekutiv i RESU, e plotësoi këtë perspektivë duke ndarë rrugëtimin e tij si aktivist në 🇦🇱, duke treguar se ndikimi afatgjatë ndërtohet kur njerëzit bashkohen rreth një kauze të përbashkët, përballojnë sfidat me këmbëngulje dhe mbeten të përkushtuar ndaj një vizioni të përbashkët.

Bringing together researchers and activists, this Green Sofa event reflects on activism in contemporary democracies. While new forms of engagement have expanded opportunities for participation and visibility, they often remain fragmented, issue-specific, and difficult to translate into enduring structures of collective action. The discussion will explore how activism navigates the relationship between spontaneity and organization, protest and institution-building, and how democratic transformation depends on the collective capacity to imagine and pursue alternative futures.
