SUBJECT: Anguilla Family Planning Association Highlights 2021 -2024 Key Achievement and Announces New Leadership
The Anguilla Family Planning Association, a dedicated non-profit organization established in 1981, continues its mission to enhance public understanding of contraception and support the Ministry of Health in procuring essential health commodities. Composed entirely of volunteers, the Association is committed to providing crucial information and resources to the Anguillian community.
Over the years, the Association has spearheaded numerous educational initiatives, including informative sessions on contraceptive use, benefits, and side effects, targeting students, health professionals, youth, and various community groups. Notably, in 2021/2022, the Association conducted a survey assessing the sexual and reproductive health needs of Spanish-speaking women aged 15-45. This study revealed a significant gap in health messages available in Spanish at healthcare facilities and public locations.
In response, the Association addressed this gap by preparing and displaying health promotion messages in Spanish on contraceptives at government healthcare facilities, the Inland Revenue Department, the Post Office, the National Commercial Bank of Anguilla, and various public billboards.
The Association held its annual general meeting on September 5th, 2024. Dr. Brett Hodge, the outgoing president, provided a comprehensive update on the Association’s activities over the past year, and Ms. Civilla Kentish secretary/treasurer presented the financial report for the same period.
A new board of volunteers was elected to lead the Association forward during the meeting. Ms. Rhonda Myers, RN, Public Health Nurse, was elected as President; Dr. Brett Hodge as Vice President; and Twyla Bradshaw-Richardson, Director of the National Chronic Disease Prevention Programme, as Secretary/Treasurer.
The Association extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hodge and Ms. Kentish for their years of dedicated service and wishes the new executive team great success in their future endeavors. The incoming board looks forward to continuing the Association’s work with the support of the community.
