This moment cannot only be about salary restructuring.

It must also be about teacher wellbeing, working conditions, support, solidarity, and the future of education in Anguilla.

Teachers deserve fair compensation! We must also build a culture where no teacher fights alone!

We encourage all educators and the wider Anguillian public to listen, reflect, and read the teacher concerns reports that can be accessed through the link provided as we continue pushing for collective progress across education.

The programme featured impactful contributions from notable guests including Chief Education Officer Mr. Bren Romney, Education Officer Mrs. Rita Celestine Carty, and Guest Speaker Mrs. Jemila Morson-Hodge, whose words challenged and inspired all in attendance. 🌍🙌🏾

Recognition must also be given to the Welcome Remarks delivered by ATU President Mr. Terron Azille, his contribution helped set the tone for an evening filled with purpose, hope, and vision.

The launch also highlighted the vision and work of the committee through presentations by Chairperson Ms. Petricia Edrum, including the unveiling of the SOWC Handbook and acknowledgements of meaningful partnerships with organizations such as SAFE Hotline 7233, KidzKare Baby Sitting Agency, Simply Natural by Yinka, and the Anguilla Cancer Society.

INTRODUCING 2026 RISE AWARDEE | STEM INNOVATOR – DR. WENONAH J. LAWRENCE

Dr. Wenonah J. Lawrence is a leading educational technologist from Anguilla, widely recognized for her contributions to advancing STEM education and digital literacy across the Caribbean. Her work has positioned her as a key voice in shaping how technology supports teaching, learning, and workforce readiness in the region.

As the Curriculum Officer for Information and Communication Technology in Anguilla’s Department of Education, Dr. Lawrence has been instrumental in modernizing the nation’s educational landscape. She has led initiatives that strengthen digital capacity among teachers and students, developed frameworks aligned with evolving technological demands, and provides technical leadership to ensure educators are equipped for both administrative and instructional tasks. Her efforts have significantly accelerated the integration of technology into classrooms and strengthened national digital readiness.

Her influence extends regionally through her contributions to CARICOM and the OECS. She represents Anguilla on the CARICOM Digital Skills Task Force and has facilitated professional development for education leaders and teachers across the OECS, supporting the region’s transition toward more digitally empowered education systems.

A committed lifelong learner, Dr. Lawrence actively pursues professional development through the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), completing ongoing training to remain current with emerging trends in educational technology. She maintains a personal goal of completing at least one webinar each month on topics related to digital learning and innovation.

Her dedication to student success extends beyond technology. As a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), she provides mathematics tutoring for students from Grade 2 through Form 4, offering targeted support to strengthen numeracy skills and build academic confidence.

Dr. Lawrence’s work is grounded in her Christian faith. She strives to “do everything as unto God and not unto man,” a principle that guides her leadership, service, and interactions with others. This foundation shapes her belief that digital technology is essential across all sectors and fuels her advocacy for retooling and reskilling the workforce to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving labour market.

Her career began as an educator at the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, where she later served as both science and mathematics coordinator. These early experiences shaped her commitment to educational excellence and provided the foundation for her transition from classroom teacher to national and regional leader in digital education.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Lawrence is deeply rooted in family life. She is married to Reverend Deacon Anthony Lawrence, and together she and her husband are raising two sons who inspire her commitment to demonstrating the power of living a life of service. When her life’s work is complete, she hopes to be remembered for the love she showed to others, the hope she shared, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
