Members of the Community Development and Citizens' Engagement Division recently participated in a Vice-Regal Protocols of Antigua and Barbuda training session, where they gained valuable knowledge and insights into the procedures and protocols governing official ceremonies involving the Head of State, His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and other Dignatories to include the Head of Government the Right Hon. Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

The session was informative, educational, and highly engaging. It was particularly relevant to the Division, as officers are often involved in organizing and executing official ceremonies that include the participation of the Governor General.

The training was facilitated by Ms. Karen Cabral, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mrs. Ann Jonas, Private Secretary to the Governor General. Both presenters shared a wealth of knowledge and practical experience, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of Vice-Regal protocols and ceremonial procedures.

As a result of the training, attendees acquired new knowledge and strengthened their existing understanding of protocol matters, equipping them to carry out protocol-related duties with professionalism and excellence.

Yesterday, the Community Development and Citizens' Engagement Division proudly welcomed the newest member of the Centenarian Club during an official ceremony honoring Mrs. Alberta Roberts Nicholas of Old Road on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

The celebration was attended by dignitaries, family members, friends, and members of the Old Road Seventh-day Adventist Church. Remarks and presentations were delivered by His Excellency Sir Clare Roberts, Deputy to the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda; Hon. Kiz Johnson, Minister of State within the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation; Sen. Hon. Lamin Newton, Caretaker of the All Saints East and St. Luke Constituency; Hon. Osbert Frederick, Speaker of the House and family member; Mrs. Almira Henry, Acting Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation; Ms. Dale O’Brien, Director of Community Development and Citizens' Engagement; as well as relatives, friends, and church leaders, including elders and pastors of the Old Road Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Also in attendance were Ms. Tanya Williams, Community Development Field Officer with responsibility for the South Zone, who ably chaired the programme; Mr. Andelle Trotman, Deputy Director of Community Development and Citizens' Engagement; Mr. Gerard Brookes; and Mr. Peterson Griffiths, Field Officers within the Community Development and Citizens' Engagement Division.

Throughout the ceremony, many attendees fondly reminisced about their childhood memories of growing up around Mrs. Nicholas and worshipping alongside her at church. In her response, Mrs. Nicholas expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone present and gave thanks to God through a moving rendition of the song, “Your Grace and Mercy.” She is deeply loved and respected by all whose lives she has touched, including her family, friends, church family, and the many individuals she has nurtured over the years.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the presentation of a $10,000 donation by Minister of State Hon. Kiz Johnson. This contribution forms part of a recent government initiative to honor centenarians in recognition of their longevity and invaluable contributions to the nation.

The Director and staff of the Community Development and Citizens' Engagement Division remain committed to honoring and supporting our centenarians as they celebrate these remarkable milestones and continue to enrich our communities with their wisdom and legacy.

In Loving Memory of Ms. Ruth Henrietta Georgiana
3rd May 1926 – 01st June 2026_ 💐

On behalf of the Director and Staff of the Community Development and Citizens Engagement Division, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Ms. Ruth Henrietta Georgiana, who peacefully transitioned to glory on Sunday, 01st June 2026, having celebrated 100 years of life.

Ms. Georgiana was more than a centenarian - she was a living testament to resilience, wisdom, and grace. For a century, she witnessed the growth of our nation, shared stories that bridged generations, and carried with her the values of community, kindness, and strength that we at the Division strive to uphold every day.

Her life reminds us of the importance of honoring our elders, preserving our heritage, and building communities where every voice - especially those with 100 years of experience - is cherished and respected. Ms. Georgiana’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire the work we do in community development and citizen engagement.

To her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and all who loved her: we share in your sorrow, but we also celebrate a life extraordinarily well-lived. May the memories you hold of Ms. Georgiana bring you comfort, and may her peaceful rest be a reflection of the peace she brought to others.

Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” - Matthew 25:23_

From our family at the Community Development and Citizens Engagement Division to yours, we send love, strength, and prayer during this time of bereavement.

Rest in eternal peace, Ms. Ruth Henrietta Georgiana. Your 100 years will not be forgotten.
