Women of Esteem is a volunteer based organisation in Antigua and Barbuda and was founded in October 2011. Women of Esteem initially begun offering support to the needs of women & girls who were silenced due to abuse and discrimination. Over the years, we have evolved to be recognised for our unwavering dedication to empowering women & girls through various initiatives. Today, Women of Esteem is on
e of 36 Charities under the patronage the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, Sir Rodney Williams and his wife Lady Sandra Williams of Halo Foundation. Women of Esteem’s mandate is to educate women and girls with the right knowledge about their beauty, value, identity, purpose and their freedom of expression. ‘WoE’ focuses on developing positive self images, building body confidence, establishing positive mindsets and independence through responsible decision making while empowering them to set and achieve goals. The majority of young girls today feel they do not measure up in some way including their looks, performance in school, families and relationships. Most disturbing is that girls with low self-esteem are engaging in harmful and destructive behaviors that can have a lasting imprint on their lives. We have a divine passion for sharing authentic support as we Embrace, Educate and Empower each individual through our various initiatives such as our annual 2 weeks Girl’s Camp, motivational seminars, conferences etc. ‘WoE’ has remained committed to the fight against Violence, Domestic Abuse, Unemployment and all discrimination affecting women & girls through various candle light vigils, marches and other initiatives. The “ – Control Your Destiny” program is our newest empowerment initiative under the Women of Esteem umbrella. It aims to redefine what true beauty and value for girls represents. Our program provides all girls with the skills and knowledge to set goals, overcome obstacles, and improve academic performance. The goal of the camp is to boost self-esteem, sisterhood, enthusiasm, create a positive school environment and provide every girl with the “tools she needs to become a strong, confident, fearless young woman and have a successful high school experience.”
Our mandate is to inspire each girl to be inquisitive, ask questions, be authentic, brave and totally fearless when it comes to understanding who she is, pursuing her dreams, blazing a trail and making her spectacular mark in today’s society. At Camp we empathise and problem solve issues, teach all girls how to connect meaningfully even when their lives, beliefs and opinions may be very different. We are readily informed by girls and their families. We have been working closely with policymakers to advocate for legislation and initiatives that increase opportunities for girls. At Women of Esteem our aim is for every girl to grow up healthy, educated, and independent. Our program provides the girls a safe space to come together, share stories, discuss important topics and make friends. Women of Esteem is registered with St. John’s Co-operative Credit Union and the Intellectual Properties of Antigua & Barbuda.
