Created to inspire and educate
Credendo Vides is a non-profit agency providing mentoring programs and healthcare education programs for middle and high school students in Antigua. Credendo Vides’s mentoring program’s goal is to help young people gain a sense of hope in their future by promoting and gaining various skills such as leadership skills, research, public speaking, writing, team building,
debating, and strong interpersonal skills while creating life-long friendships. By experiencing Model United Nations (MUN), a simulation of United Nations Conferences which helps build these skills, Antiguan children will have the chance to become more aware of the world’s most pressing issues while at the same time gaining motivation to become excellent students and have a future which will enable them to progress to a better lifestyle. Students who have practised MUN at school or at university level have managed to progress to various fields in their countries political, educational, scientific and more. Through personal relationships that MUN can offer, can a sense of individual responsibility be re-established that will give young people of today the commitment to follow through on a path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Credendo Vides also aims to have a medical program in the future, which mainly aims at education and training school teachers and students the basics of all healthcare (especially sexual and reproductive healthcare) and emergency first aid. It aims at giving a basic understanding of the medical field to students and to inspire students to one day enter the profession. Introducing healthcare education at a young age, increases the potential of future generations to develop skills and employment opportunities in the field to furthermore increase the nations standard of living and development. Credendo Vides will also hold some “Free Healthcare” days which aim to provide basic health check-ups and vaccinations to school children in need who cannot afford the healthcare in Antigua. There is space for expansion on this idea and this can possibly link the medical school students from the medical schools in Antigua to the local middle and high schools, giving a chance to all medical students to get involved in the local community and help the less developed Antiguan population (mainly aiming at school children). Over time, Credendo Vides will create a learning environment that will be an invaluable resource to young people, aspiring mentors and the community at large.
