Emergency Earthquake Response (Hygiene Kits): Safeguarding Health and Dignity in Kunar Province

Following the recent earthquake in Kunar Province, thousands of families were displaced and forced to seek refuge in overcrowded camp settings. Damaged shelters, poor living conditions, and the sudden loss of livelihoods significantly increased health and protection risks, particularly for women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.

To address these urgent needs, GNI, in partnership with OCHR, implemented an Emergency Earthquake Response Project to provide essential hygiene kits to affected households. Distributions were conducted in a safe, orderly, and dignified manner, ensuring inclusive access for all vulnerable groups. Beneficiaries received clear guidance on the contents and appropriate use of the hygiene kits to maximize their effectiveness.

Strong coordination among OCHR, camp management, community representatives, and the GNI-A team ensured transparency, accountability, and smooth implementation throughout the process. As a result, 714 households received hygiene kits, each containing 14 essential items on 9-10 December 2025, with distributions carried out respectfully and without incident.

The timely assistance effectively addressed immediate hygiene needs and helped reduce public health risks in the camp environment. Furthermore, beneficiaries expressed sincere appreciation for the support provided by Good Neighbors Afghanistan and conveyed hope for continued assistance in the future.

“Strength in Collaboration: Successful GIK Distribution to Disaster-Affected Families in Kapisa Province”

In response to the urgent needs of families affected by natural disasters in Kapisa province, GNI-A, in close collaboration with the Kapisa ANDMA team, successfully carried out the distribution of 1,000 GIK (Gifts-in-Kind) kits in October 2025. This well-planned and efficiently executed initiative not only provided essential support to vulnerable households but also reinforced community trust in humanitarian actors and strengthened the partnership between GNI-A and local authorities.

The coordinated efforts of GNI-A and the Kapisa ANDMA team resulted in the successful and timely distribution of all 1,000 planned GIK kits for 2025. The initiative not only provided essential items to disaster-affected families but also highlighted the importance of collaboration, community engagement, and respectful service delivery.

This joint distribution stands as an example of how effective planning, mutual coordination, and a commitment to humanitarian values can create a positive and meaningful impact on communities in need. The success of this activity has not only supported vulnerable families but also reinforced community confidence in the continued efforts of GNI-A and its partners.

Inauguration of the Protection Wall Construction Project in Jorghal Village, Nijrab District, Kapisa Province

Launch of the Protection Wall Construction Project in Jorghal Village, Nijrab District, Kapisa Province, marks a significant milestone in community-based disaster risk reduction and resilience-building in the region. This initiative, despite facing numerous bureaucratic and administrative hurdles, has now successfully transitioned from planning to ex*****on.

The journey began with the official registration of the project at the Ministry of Economy, signing MoU, with considerable follow-up, meetings, and document processing, we finally obtained the project introduction letter from the Ministry.

However, the administrative process of this project with government departments were partially challengeable, but the GNI-A team has strived by maintaining healthy and professional relationships with stakeholders and decision-makers, through consistent advocacy, transparent communication, and the application of positive and ethical engagement, eventually we were able to overcome the institutional challenges and ensure that the project moved forward without compromising on quality, compliance, or community trust,.

Finally, after months of tireless efforts, the official inauguration ceremony of the project took place in Joorghal Village. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Governor Deputy, representatives from Provincial Directorate of Economy, Provincial Directorate of Disaster Management, District Governor of Nijrab, and community elders. Their presence underscored the collective ownership of the project and the shared commitment to protecting vulnerable communities from climate-related disasters.

This success story stands as a testament to the power of persistence, principled coordination, and community-driven development. We look forward to the successful implementation of the project and the lasting impact it will have on the resilience and safety of Joorghal Village residents in Kapisa province.
