The online event titled “Voices Silenced: Examining the Situation of Journalists and Human Rights Defenders in Afghanistan” was successfully held via Zoom on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, organized by the New Thinker Youth Civil Organisation.
The program brought together speakers who shared their insights on the current situation of imprisoned journalists, ongoing threats to media workers, and the broader challenges faced by human rights defenders. The discussion also addressed the forced deportation of Afghan activists, journalists, and civil society members from neighboring countries, particularly Pakistan, and the risks they face upon return.
The session was conducted in a constructive and respectful atmosphere, allowing for meaningful exchange of perspectives. Participants actively engaged in the discussion, and in the final segment of the program, attendees were given the opportunity to share their views, experiences, and recommendations.
The event emphasized the urgent need for continued advocacy, international attention, and coordinated efforts to support freedom of expression and protect those at risk.
We extend our appreciation to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.
