Wasat emerged as a separate entity from the organizational structure of Cooperation for Peace and Unity (CPAU). The CoE works as a platform to expand multilateral CVE efforts through better coordination between the government, civil society, donor community and the private sector in Afghanistan. The initial motive for creating Wasat was rooted in the development of a national action plan and overa

This national strategy is developed and implemented by CPAU in close coordination with the Office of the National Security Council (ONSC). Our objectives are:
• To provide grassroots-level research and CVE perspectives from all 34 provinces in Afghanistan
• To be a source for linking up with local, national and international CVE partners and experts
• To be a vehicle for implementing and overseeing CVE initiatives throughout the country and the broader region
• To contribute to an informed Afghan people and build the psychological resilience of communities and individuals and to facility community access and outreach
• To engage the community and promote local capacity building training
• To involve and utilize social media in Strategic Communication and the promotion of an alternative narrative on CVE in Afghanistan
The core of Wasat revolves around three pillars:
1. Developing and identifying the right message through research and analysis;
2. Disseminating the right message as based on dialogue and advocacy through a proactive and positive media strategy and
3. Implementing and sustaining the message through capacity building, structural development and training. Mission: Our Mission is to provide policy advice and analysis, expert opinions, and training on how to revive the essence of moderation in Afghanistan as a think tank and Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism while overseeing projects and efforts related to CVE as a CVE Monitor Institution.
