It is August 8, 2024 which marks 1061 days since the closure of school doors to girls above sixth grade in Afghanistan under the Taliban rule. Photographer, Jafar Mosavi , captured these portraits in December 2023, almost a year ago, on the last day of school for these girls.

“The sad but determined faces of the girls who graduated from the sixth grade this year and came today to receive their report card. Here in Afghanistan after the rule of the Islamic Emirate aka the Taliban, girls can only study up to the sixth grade. Today is the last day at school and they are saying goodbye to their teacher and classmates. December 2023
