On , we recognise the challenges faced by many children in Afghanistan who work to help support their families.

While we understand the realities that drive children into work, every child deserves the opportunity to learn, play, grow, and enjoy their childhood to the full.

Through the HEMAT Centres in Herat and Ghor, World Vision Afghanistan is supporting working children with healthcare, counselling, catch-up education, psychosocial support, and safe spaces where they can build confidence, develop life skills, and find moments of joy.

During her visit to the HEMAT Centre in Ghor, Thamindri De Silva, National Director of World Vision Afghanistan, witnessed the positive impact of these services on children's wellbeing. She saw how learning-through-play, counselling, and supportive care are helping children manage anxiety, strengthen their resilience, and build hope for the future.

This World Day Against Child Labour, we reaffirm our commitment to working alongside communities, partners, and families to ensure that every child is supported, nurtured, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Together, we can help every child enjoy their childhood to the full.

🌍 World Environment Day

Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet countless communities like Sardaba in Faryab face daily barriers to securing it. The DAWAM Project implements sustainable WASH solutions, creating lasting impact and improving lives across these communities.

From water towers and reverse osmosis systems to household taps, these initiatives empower communities, especially children, with reliable access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation, promoting better health, education, and environmental stewardship.

Every effort to protect our environment and manage water sustainably matters. Together, we can ensure a healthier, safer future for all.

World Vision Afghanistan National Director Thamindri De Silva represented NGOs at yesterday’s official launch of the 2026 Response Plan for Afghan Returnees (RPAR).
Addressing UN partners and the international community in Kabul and online, Ms De Silva highlighted the growing strain on communities receiving returnees, with increasing pressure on jobs, resources, and traditional support systems.

Drawing on World Vision's own report into the impacts of remittance loss from forced returns, she stressed the need for a holistic response that addresses returns not only as a humanitarian emergency, but also as a long-term development and stabilisation challenge through collaboration between communities, NGOs, and international partners.

In Ghor, Mahmood once spent his days selling eggs to support his family. Today, he is in a classroom — learning, writing, and beginning to see a different future.

Through World Vision’s Health, Education, Mentorship, and Advocacy for Tomorrow (HEMAT) Centre, children are supported to access education and a safe space to learn and grow.

As Mahmood shared his story, he became emotional — tears of happiness as he spoke about starting school, something that once felt out of reach.

“I sold eggs for five years. I never thought I could study. I went to the centre to look for another way forward, and I was encouraged to start learning. Now I am in Grade Two.”

“I dream of becoming an engineer and building a centre like this for other children.”
