1971 is a multi-functional design space dedicated to exhibition, display and discussion on all forms of contemporary design ranging from graphic, furniture to interior as well as interactive design and new technologies. Through a mixture of curated exhibitions and public programmes 1971 aims to become a regional and international design hub in the UAE working in close proximity with local designer

s, architects, schools and universities. 1971 will also serve as an informal meeting point and includes a fully serviced cafe for the enjoyment of the public.

1971 – Design Space presents a new site-specific installation by Nidanin titled “The Saffar of Coral”, opening on 7 June at 11:00 am, followed by a talk.
Installed in the terrace of 1971 – Design Space, the installation draws on the maritime history of the Gulf through fragmented wooden and sculptural forms that evoke movement, memory, and gathering.

1971 – Design Space presents a new site-specific installation by Nidanin titled “The Saffar of Coral”, opening on 7 June at 11:00 am, followed by a talk.
Installed across the rooftop of 1971 – Design Space, the installation draws on the maritime history of the Gulf through fragmented wooden forms and sculptural seating elements that evoke movement, memory, and gathering.

انضمّوا إلينا في الجلسة الختامية الافتراضية لمعرض “في حضرة النور”، ضمن مهرجان الفنون الإسلامية في الشارقة (سراج)، والتي تجمع فناني ومصممي المعرض في نقاش مفتوح.
يستكشف المعرض الضوء بوصفه حالةً تتشكّل بين الذاكرة والتحوّل والسكون، ويتتبّع حضوره كتجربة شعورية تُعيد تشكيل علاقتنا بالمكان والزمن.

Join us for “Suhoor & Talk” as part of “light...encountered”, an exhibition in collaboration with the Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival. The event will include a special talk by the exhibition’s artists and designers: One Third Studio, Omar Darwish, and Ruqaya AlHashmi on Thursday, March 5th, from 8:30 PM to 11:00 PM at 1971 – Design Space.

It’s a wrap! Thank you to everyone who came to visit our presentation at Downtown Design 2025 with Nuhayr Zein and Lina Ghalib whose use of biomaterials showcased the potential of sustainability in design and sparked many interesting conversations.

شكرًا لكل من زار عرضنا في معرض داون تاون ديزاين 2025 بمشاركة نُهيْر زين ولينا غالب، اللتين قدّمتا من خلال استخدام المواد الحيوية رؤية ملهمة حول إمكانات الاستدامة في التصميم، وأثار عملهما العديد من الحوارات القيّمة والمُلهمة.

Until Sunday, we are presenting an exploration into sustainable materials with Nuhayr Zein, Founder of Leukeather, and Lina Ghalib, Founder of PlyPalm.

Both designers emerge from the UAE’s landscape and showcase their material innovations, transforming what is often overlooked in nature into enduring design. Each studio begins with a specific material - seed pods or palm fronds - reviving them to tell stories that bridge the personal and the collective.

نقدم لكم تجربة استكشافية في عالم المواد المستدامة بالتعاون مع نهير زين، مؤسسة علامة “لوكيذر”، ولينا غالب، مؤسسة “بلاي بالم”.

ينطلقن كلا المصممتين من بيئة دولة الإمارات، حيث تعرضان ابتكارات مادية تعيد صياغة ما يُغفل عنه في الطبيعة إلى تصاميم خالدة. يبدأ كل استوديو من مادة محددة، قرون البذور أو سعف النخيل، ليمنحها حياة جديدة تروي حكايات تصل بين الذاتي والجمعي.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our workshop yesterday with Areen Hassan . Inspired by the geometric symbols and storytelling nature of Tatreez, participants engaged with the patterns, learning about their cultural significance and meanings, before translating them into bold printed compositions using silkscreen printing tools. This workshop was held in conjunction with SILA: All That Is Left To You .

شكرًا لكل من شارك في ورشة العمل التي أُقيمت يوم أمس مع عرين حسن. استلهم المشاركون الرموز الهندسية والطابع السردي لفن التطريز الفلسطيني، فتفاعلوا مع النقوش وتعرّفوا إلى دلالاتها الثقافية ومعانيها، قبل أن يحوّلوها إلى تركيبات طباعية جريئة باستخدام أدوات الطباعة الحريرية.
