Ever wondered why learning to read Arabic can feel so hard, even for children who speak it at home?

That question sits at the heart of IQRA, our evidence-based early grade reading intervention in Ras Al Khaimah, recently featured by The National.

Instead of asking children to memorize first and understand later, IQRA trains the brain to recognize sounds and patterns until reading becomes automatic. The program has already shown significant results across 83 classrooms and 26 schools, with students making reading gains equivalent to an additional 25% of a school year in a single academic year.

Starting September 2026, IQRA will roll out across Ras Al Khaimah private schools.

Join us for the European Film Festival in Ras Al Khaimah, taking place for the first time in the Emirate from 1 to 6 June 2026 at the RAK Chamber Theater.

Organized by the European Union Delegation to the UAE in partnership with Ras Al Khaimah Art under the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation for Policy Research and supported by the RAK Chamber of Commerce, the festival celebrates the richness and diversity of European cinema through award-winning films, documentaries, family-friendly productions and inspiring stories from Europe and the UAE.

The festival features European films from Malta, France, Romania, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, alongside a selection of Emirati short films highlighting emerging local storytelling and creative talent.

Open to everyone, the festival welcomes film lovers, families, students, creatives and anyone interested in cultural exchange and global storytelling.

Every Arabic-speaking country in the global assessment PIRLS scores below the global average. That’s not a language problem. It’s a fluency problem.

When a child cannot read Arabic quickly and automatically, they don’t just fall behind in Arabic class, they also fall behind in other subjects such as Mathematics and Science.

Reading fluency isn’t a literacy skill, it’s the foundation of all academic achievement. The IQRA programme was built on a simple premise: fluency is teachable, if you start early and stay structured. IQRA teaches on one letter per lesson and focuses on repetition until decoding the language becomes an automatic process for students. In IQRA large fonts and ample spacing help to build pattern recognition.

In a randomised controlled trial across 26 schools in Ras Al Khaimah in 2024–2025, IQRA students made reading gains equivalent to an additional 25% of a school year, above and beyond their peers in standard Arabic classrooms.
Arabic literacy is a priority and the evidence on how to advance it, is now in.
