Soroptimist International Club Gulf-Dubai

SI is now approaching 90,000 members in 125 countries/territories.

Founded in April 2015 by Dame Sareh Ameri, SI Dubai became the Gulf’s first Soroptimist International club, marking the start of a journey to empower women, promote education and social change, with the charter handed to Ameri and Secretary Arfaei. From the founding of the first Soroptimist club in 1921 through to the present day where over 3000 clubs are flourishing throughout the world, Soroptim

ists have continued to strive to achieve the best for women in every sphere of their lives. SI’s structure embraces partnerships between the Global North and the Global South, whereby we learn from one another and support one another as we empower women and girls.

Last night marked our first meeting with our new President, Sonja Ohly, and what a powerful way to begin 💛

As Sonja so beautifully shared:
“Being a Soroptimist means believing in the power and potential of women. It means standing for education, empowerment, equality, and human rights. It means taking action through advocacy, service, and collaboration to create opportunities where there were none before.”

In the midst of such uncertain and chaotic times in the region, coming together in sisterhood felt more meaningful than ever. We are so grateful for this community, the conversations we shared, and the purpose that continues to bring us together!

Our president, Emma Brown—who also serves on the SIE Board—along with Edurne Gil de Saint Vincente, is in Barcelona joining other board members for the first in‑person meeting of the year as they begin preparations for the 2026–2027 biennium.

Vice President of the SIE Greek Federation Vicky, President of SIE Club Haifa DR Janan , Vice President Renate of SI Club Gulf - Dubai and and it‘s sisters Ester, Nassim, Sonja and our friend OSK from Australia were meeting for a joyful gathering in the Soroptimist spirit.
It was a lively exchange of experiences and ideas for future work to EDUCATE ENABLE EMPOWER women and girls.

Here we have Kora's incredible piece of work that she submitted for Soroptimist Dubai's Orange The World initiative, and that ended up winning her 1st place. Our entire group was vowed by the use of vibrant colors to depict something so horrific yet so common by women around the world. We were so awed by the talent Kora possesses, and so grateful that she made this incredible piece of art for a cause we believe so deeply in. Thank you Kora, from the bottom of our heart and a huge congratulations!!!!

For Orange The World, Soroptimist Dubai requested submissions from a handful of young, trailblazing women to represent their views on online violence against women. Ava Shirwani () submitted this incredible poem that we got the opportunity to hear live at our 10 year anniversary gala. As our 2nd place winner this poem was beyond arresting and every attendee was captivated by how powerful the piece was. We are so unbelievably proud of Ava and so grateful that we got to experience the beauty of this incredible poem.
