| An exciting opportunity to redesign and rehabilitate an architectural pavilion at the Jameel.

In collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (.gss) and led by , Jameel Arts Centre is hosting the Global Summer School 2026 — Post Occupancy Architecture Workshop: Interspecies Futures.

This isn’t your typical workshop. We aren’t asking you to design something from scratch. Instead, we’re inviting you to a live forensic audit of ‘Tarabot: Weaving a Living Forum’. Over two intensive weeks, you will use physical computing sensors to detect flaws in its ecological design, then design and fabricate a 1:1 physical “correction” directly into its steel frame.

This is lifecycle architecture in real-time. Once the workshop ends, ‘Tarabot: Weaving a Living Forum’ will be submerged into the sea, to serve as a substrate for coral reef rehabilitation.

Key Details:
Workshop Dates: July 6-17, 2026
Location: Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai
Requirements: Open to all; no prior specialist knowledge required.

Applications are officially open! Spaces are allocated on a strictly first-come, first-served basis, and spots are limited to 12 participants.

| Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook: Departure of Thai Country Girls | The Bouquet and the Wreath 🌾

With just a few weeks remaining before it closes on April 12, ‘The Bouquet and the Wreath’ at invites a final look at Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook’s work Departure of Thai Country Girls (1995).

In this work, the artist revisits a formative childhood memory — the recitation of a 19th-century Thai poem warning young women against the loss of “honour”. Years later, while living in Germany, her encounters with Thai women working in the entertainment industry prompted a deeper reflection on the realities behind these moral codes.

Composed of wood, steel and charcoal, the installation dramatises the journey from rural Thailand to distant, unfamiliar lands. By depicting only the women’s legs, Araya invites us to contemplate the physical and emotional toll of migration, and how a woman’s relationship to her body is reshaped by displacement and labour.

Part of the solo exhibition spanning the artist’s multidisciplinary practice, the work reflects Araya’s ability to intertwine the personal with the political. This work is generously on loan from .

‘The Bouquet and the Wreath’ is curated by Kittima Chareeprasit (.jpg) and Roger Nelson () and presented in two parts — at MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum, Chiang Mai (now closed) and at Jameel Arts Centre until April 12, 2026.

The exhibition is accompanied by a landmark publication published by Press Works ().

| Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook: The Same Old Karma Landscape | The Bouquet and the Wreath 🌾

How do we confront the weight of our own history to create something entirely new?

In The Same Old Karma Landscape (2025), Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook presents one of her most ambitious works to date — an immersive eight-channel video installation. By sampling and reworking excerpts from nearly three decades of her own archive, Araya activates startling new connections between scenes of the living, the dead and the animal world.

The installation is a cacophony of sight and sound that veers between coherence and chaos. For Araya, the process of revisiting her past work is an act of confrontation; she describes the installation as an “unsettled zone of tension”, where the pressure of her previous creations exerts an almost violent force on the present.

Reflecting on the Buddhist concept of Karma, the relationship between past actions and their consequences, Araya writes: “To transform the meaning of an ancient landscape, one must confront old karma”. This work is not a retrospective, but a powerful, energetic reckoning with the ghosts of her own practice.

The work was commissioned by and .
