MAMA WOLF CONFESSIONS … birthdays in the UAE Year of Family

There is nothing more important to me than family and community.

When family and community unity are strong, inclusion becomes natural … because belonging is welcomed, embraced, and lived.

Yesterday was my birthday. In my 52 years, my life has changed deeply, and so have my perspective and values.

Much of that has come from living in Dubai, UAE for over 28 years, absorbing and appreciating the culture here … and from Rio changing the direction of my life completely.

On days like my birthday and Mother’s Day, I never want gifts or money spent on me. They feel unnecessary.

My wish list is always the same.

The hope:

Family time
Homemade cards
Homemade vegan waffles, sitting around our table together for breakfast at home
Family walks with our dog Luna

And if possible, as a treat:

Lunch at - the best plant-based restaurant in the UAE and my favourite restaurant
An evening on the sofa at home watching a movie with the family, eating the best plant-based cheese I have ever tasted from

Seva Table & Grawtitude are always on my treat wish list!

And that is exactly what I got yesterday.

I feel very lucky.

Thank you for all the kind birthday messages I received.
And thank you for the delicious cakes from Roselyn & Sonia, and the beautiful flowers from Annie.

THANK YOU to my family for a lovely day - I feel seen, loved and appreciated.

The only thing I didn’t get was the kitten on my list… but I knew I was pushing my luck with that one! 😂😹

Rio has taught me that the simplest things are often the most important and fulfilling. 🤍

Today is Delphine Watson's birthday and there are not enough words in the world to do her justice. 🐺

The world records are amazing. The races are unforgettable. But nothing I have ever witnessed comes close to watching her be Tia and Rio's mum.

She made them both feel seen. Completely. Unconditionally. Always.

Tia built a brand. Rio reminds everyone around him what truly matters.

Behind both of them, always, is their mum.

Happy Birthday, Delphine (CPP).
There is no WolfPack without you - we love you. 💜

INCLUSIVE IMPACTIVITY at DXB Snow Run ❄️🐺

Well… this race humbled us.

Nick & Rio returned to the DXB Snow Run at Ski Dubai for the first time in years - a sold-out community race organised by Dubai Sports Council and Super Sports Events.

3km.
Three brutal loops up and down a freezing ski slope.
Rio strapped to Nick’s back.
Rio now 23, 55+kgs.
Nick now 56.
Rio’s feet not far off the ground on Nick’s back

And honestly… it was hard.

There were moments of exhaustion.
Moments where every climb felt endless.
And yes… there were falls.

But what stood out most, was community.
From people checking if they were okay, to encouragement on the slopes, to helping hands making sure Rio got safely and warmly to the finish line - this race became something much bigger than sport.
That’s what we mean when we talk about inclusion.
Not perfection.
Not polished moments.
But people coming together so nobody gets left behind.
And somehow, despite the freezing temperatures, aching legs, and dramatic wipeouts… Rio absolutely loved every second of it.
That smile at the end says it all. 🤍

A huge thank you to Super Sports Events, Dubai Sports Council and Ski Dubai for creating such a unique community event.
And special thanks to Tia Watson ( Little X Wolf ) - official camera girl and support crew for the morning - staying with the boys throughout, even when the cold seriously got to her! 😂❄️
(A Dubai-born girl is apparently still not adapted to freezing temperatures!)

INCLUSIVE IMPACTIVITY is not always easy or graceful… ❄️🐺

This morning Nick & Rio returned to the DXB Snow Run for the first time in years.

3km.
3 loops up and down the slope.
Freezing temperatures.
Steep ski hill.
Rio strapped to Nick’s back.

Rio is now 23 and heavier.
Nick is now 56.
And somehow… it felt even harder this time.

There was sweat.
There were falls.
There were moments where every step had to be fought for.

…just like it was for so many athletes out there. That’s part of the fun, challenge, and community spirit of this race.

But Rio remembered this race the moment he realised where he was going.
He was excited.
And he absolutely loved it.

Sometimes inclusion looks powerful.
Sometimes it looks messy.
Sometimes it means falling down and getting back up together.

And honestly… that’s what makes it real.

Some moments stay with you forever.

Last week during the Dubai Police “Proud of UAE” cycling race, Nick and Rio found themselves in a genuinely difficult and vulnerable situation after missing the race cut-off point.

What happened next reminded us exactly why the UAE has felt like home to our family for almost 30 years.

Captain Nasser Yousuf from Dubai Police arrived with calmness, kindness, and humanity. He helped protect Rio, coordinated support for our adaptive bike, stayed with the family throughout, and made sure they got home safely.

It wasn’t just the practical help that mattered.
It was the compassion.

As a family who spends our lives trying to promote inclusion, belonging, and community through Team AngelWolf, moments like this mean more than we can explain.

Thank you to Dubai Police for not only supporting us physically - but for making Rio feel safe, respected, and included.

That moment reminded us why we feel so proud to call the UAE home. 🇦🇪🐺
