We recently hosted ‘The Great Conversation’ a closed-door session curated exclusively for CPOs and senior procurement and supply chain leaders.

Part of CIPS’ global initiative led by CEO Ben Farrell MBE, this gathering forms part of a worldwide dialogue shaping the future of our profession.

As procurement faces unprecedented change from AI and digital transformation to geopolitical pressures, talent shifts and environmental risk this session created space for an honest, forward-looking discussion on what modern procurement leadership must look like.

Hosted in Dubai at the iconic Burj Al Arab, the event also marks the beginning of a wider roll-out of future leadership conversations across the region.

The CIPS Northern Emirates Branch opened 2026 with a high-impact site visit to the Motorola Solutions Innovation Center, setting a strong tone for the year ahead.

Members gained first-hand insight into how mission-critical technologies are deployed across the UAE from law enforcement and aviation to malls, public spaces, and smart cities.

A standout moment was a live demonstration showing how AI-enabled video and vigilance systems can identify and locate a missing person inside a mall within minutes - reinforcing the very real responsibility procurement professionals carry.

The discussion went beyond technology to procurement’s role in enabling resilience, continuity, and readiness, particularly in complex and high-risk environments where reliability is non-negotiable.

The visit concluded with a forward-looking conversation on building a pre-vetted, pre-qualified supplier ecosystem led by the UAE procurement community, focused on faster onboarding, reduced duplication, and stronger ex*****on when time matters most.

Thank you to Imran Shareef, PMP, FCIPS and the Motorola Solutions team for their openness and hospitality and to the CIPS Northern Emirates Branch Committee for delivering an insightful event.

A strong start to 2026 and it’s just the beginning.

What challenges should our procurement community tackle next?
