From barriers to healthcare, education, and protection services to increased risks of discrimination, violence, and social exclusion, ensuring inclusive humanitarian action remains a critical challenge.

The final day of the Executive Program in Humanitarian Leadership focused on Executive Crisis Leadership and High-Stakes Decision-Making through an immersive crisis simulation designed to test leadership under pressure in complex humanitarian scenarios.

Participants engaged in a dynamic simulation that required rapid assessment of evolving challenges, coordinated responses, and adaptive decision-making in a fast-changing environment.

The day concluded with team presentations and a structured after-action review, reflecting on key leadership behaviors, decision-making approaches, and overall lessons learned.

As part of DIHAD Humanitarian College’s commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world humanitarian practice, a field visit to the Headquarters of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome was conducted on the fourth day of the Executive Program in Humanitarian Leadership.

The visit provided participants with valuable insight into one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, offering a deeper understanding of its operational frameworks, strategic priorities, and innovative approaches to addressing food insecurity and humanitarian needs globally.

Reflecting the program’s experiential learning approach, the visit enriched participants’ understanding of international humanitarian operations and reinforced the critical role of leadership, collaboration, and innovation in addressing today’s humanitarian challenges.

Advancing the conversation on humanitarian leadership, the Executive Program in Humanitarian Leadership, continued on Day Three with a focus on executive presence, diplomacy, and inclusive leadership as essential competencies for leading effectively in today’s complex humanitarian environment.
 
During the day, Prof. Pasquale Ferrara, Professor of Negotiation and Diplomacy at LUISS; Former Director General for Political Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Former Ambassador of Italy to Algeria, delivered a session on strategic influence and stakeholder negotiation, exploring how humanitarian leaders can effectively engage donors, governments, and partners, navigate complex stakeholder dynamics, negotiate in sensitive environments, and build collaborative coalitions across diverse systems.

Day Two of the Executive Program in Humanitarian Leadership, taking place in Rome, Italy, continued to focus on substantial dimensions of humanitarian leadership, focusing on leading with influence, presence, and inclusion in humanitarian contexts, emphasizing on the leadership competencies required to navigate today’s increasingly complex humanitarian landscape,
 
The session featured valuable perspectives on leadership, stakeholder engagement, and the role of influence in advancing humanitarian action, delivered by Mr. Paolo Rozera, Executive Director of the Italian National Committee for UNICEF, highlighting key dimensions of neutrality versus advocacy in humanitarian leadership and explored the ongoing dialogue surrounding principled decision-making in humanitarian contexts.
 
The Executive Program continues to serve as a platform for strengthening leadership capacity, fostering strategic dialogue, and advancing shared understanding among humanitarian professionals committed to impactful and principled action.

As part of the Executive Program in Humanitarian Leadership held in Rome, DIHAD Humanitarian College, in collaboration with LUISS School of Government and LUISS Research Center for International and Strategic Studies, commenced a transformative learning journey designed to empower humanitarian leaders with strategic vision, ethical decision-making, and leadership excellence in times of complexity and uncertainty.

The program opened with welcoming remarks delivered by Hon. Prof. Gaetano Quagliariello, Dean of LUISS School of Government, and H.E. Amb. Prof. Abdulsalam AlMadani, Chairman of DIHAD Sustainable Organisation and Chairman of DISAB; Roving Ambassador of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) for the GCC Region.

The opening session was followed by a lecture on the definition of leadership delivered by Eng. Khaled Al Attar, Director General of DIHAD Sustainable Organisation, highlighting the importance of strategic thinking, and principled decision-making in leading humanitarian efforts amid complex global challenges.

Bringing together professionals and leaders from diverse backgrounds, the program reflects a shared commitment to advancing humanitarian leadership through knowledge exchange, global collaboration, and impactful learning experiences.
