Today's hike somewhere in Dubai. Needed to disconnect and enjoy nature, the sand, the smell of everything in the desert.

Today's walk made ms reflect on the following thought:

How you interpret the past, will determine how you react to the present and how you will respond to the future.

Video of my thoughts on this in my bio.

📣 Our Next Chapter in 2026: Empowering Growth of People and Businesses

⭕️ Growth has always been at the heart of what we do, but enter 2026 and we are determimed to taking that mission even further!

⭕️ For years, our focus has been on empowering local talent find meaningful work and to develop the skills that will help them thrive in their careers.

⭕️ Now, we’re expanding that vision to support business leaders who are ready to scale, open adapt, and win in a rapidly evolving GCC landscape.

💡 One insight helped confirm to me that this shift is needed: A powerful statement I read in a PWC publication of the concept that “Localisation is the new globalisation.”

I believe that this strategic reality will transforming how international companies remakn relevant and succeed in the region.

As we enter this next chapter, we’re committed this year to helping organisations:

1️⃣Navigate the nuances of the local market

2️⃣Understand cultural dynamics that influence business success

3️⃣Unlock new opportunities through deeper localisation strategies

The future belongs to those who can blend global ambition with local intelligence and appreciating the influence of local culture and networks.

🟢 I decided to start my new year in a different way this time. Just me, myself and nature.

As a Dubai born, i am amused when i hear/read stuff like "Dubai has no soul'.

In my eyes, Dubai's soul is in its communities, in its people who represent the real values we all grew up with, in its old neighborhoods, its mosques, its neighborhood 'Barzas' (majlises) and in its deserts.

When i went on this hike kickstarting my year...i decided i need to do go alone:

I turned off my phone 📵

I went off the grid for 2 hours. It was the best 2 hours of peace and reflection.

So much had happened in the past 12 months, that i barely had time to stop and reflect enough.

I found myself focusing on what needed to be done, and pushing through with it.

There have been so many lessons I learnt in the past year,

And so many challenges i had to deal with, persevere and adapt to.

There have also been good times, accomplishments, wins and being around my family. I am thankful to God for all of these. Alhamdulilah.

I'm proud of the inner-work that i have committed myself towards. I have been brutally honest with the areas i needed to develop, as well as strengths. This has been a gratifying journey honestly.

I am under no illusion that 2026 looks like a year of continued challenges. Political and economic uncertainties. Conflicts. Injustices and probably a growing feeling of despair in the face of injustice, corruption and greed.

⭕️ However, with everything i endured and learnt this past year....

my mantra for this year is perfectly summed up by a quote from 'The Fellowship of The Ring':

"From the ashes, a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring".

💡 I’d love to hear your thoughts: what’s one boundary you've set or action you’ve taken that’s helped you navigate a difficult work environment or manager?

💡 In this segment of my interview on the Suwalif Space I attempt to make an important distinction between:

⭕️ What a toxic workplace really looks like...

⭕️...and where do we have agency and power to shape our own environment and boundaries.

⭕️....where we have the power to step in with our own self-leadership initiative.

⭕️ Rather than throwing blame solely on "the difficult manager", "the unhelpful colleague", or "the toxic culture the management is encouraging"; I pose the question: 'What if it is OUR OWN SELF that we need to work on'.

⭕️ My experience is that there is no ideal 'utopian' workplace so many dream of. Difficult bosses, colleagues or a toxic workplace are unfortunately part of the corporate system we have created or are part of.

⚠️ Now, I don't mean by this that toxic workplace behaviors are okay and acceptable.

To the contrary, by recognising them, setting boundaries early on and dealing with such behavior assertively, we protect ourselves first.

If everything else fails, then you have the absolute right to escalate the issue through the appropriate channels.

⭕️ My point is, by taking agency of the power we hold (no matter how little it is), we grow more resilient and at the same time send a message to the other person(s) that their behavior is unacceptable and won't be tolerated.

⭕️ With my childhood friend and brother Saeed Al Muwali, along with entrepreneur, innovator at the Abu Dhabi Finance Week (ADFW).

⭕️ Had the chance to reconnect with my homeboy and brother Saeed after he had been away in New York for years (He's been away for more than 15 years now).

⭕️ We hung out at the Abu Dhabi Finance Week, just like we used to hang out almost everywhere when we were younger.

⭕️ Only thing, this time we were pitching to prospective clients together, listening and learning from the many we people we met there.

⭕️ It's been a long and busy week, and it honestly feels like 2 weeks:

✅️ Published my latest article titled 'Why I Am No Longer Going To Use The Term 'Emiratisation'. It has gotten alot of interest. Check it out in my next post or I can DM it to you, if you want to check it out.

✅️ Discussed business opportunities between UAE and Africa over late night dinner.

✅️ Secured 3 new clients for our HR and talent services.

✅️ Went on 'Nerd mode' and I have been glued to my laptop working on developing our new toolkit for clients (Watch this space).

And it's not even end of the week yet!

Alhamdulilah 🤲🏽

⭕️ Last week, I had the pleasure to stand in front of an audience of HR executives and leaders from different industries and challenge them to rethink their national talent management process.

⭕️ In an impressive setting at the luxurious Al Habtoor Palace Hotel in Dubai, and an even more impressive roster of speakers and panellists.

⭕️ I delivered a keynote speech titled 'Transform Your National Talent Strategy by Thinking Outside The Box'.

💡 I argued that while the recently announced milestone of the number of Emiratis in the private sector which hit 157,000 nationals is certainly worth celebrating...

💡 .... there is an urgent need to focus on the next phase, so that we safeguard these gains and transform national talent management into a sustainable, strategic process that benefits both Emirati professionals and employers alike.

💡 We need to work towards national talent in the private sectors becoming real contributors to the private sector’s growth, and not just a qouta to be achieved, or a tick-box to be marked.

💡 ‘Emiratisation’ should no longer be just a compliance exercise, it can be a powerful driver of value, innovation, and sustainability.

💡 This way it can become a defining factor in how organisations contribute to the UAE’s future.

🎯 Job Hunting Tips in the GCC as We Enter 2026.
Stop waiting for that one big 'Wasta' that will land you your dream job. Here’s what works.

First I want to emphasize, while 'Wasta' has been proven to help people find jobs, remember:
🚫 Wasta ≠ Strategy

Think of Wasta as = influence + Trust + Networks. That's when Strategy = results.

💡 Think like a thought leader (ah ah, I don't mean influencer here)
Stand out. Create content consistently. Show your value.

🤝 Network smart
Start with people you trust. Ask them to connect you with 3 people they believe can help you in your job search.

Then expand your network.

📊 Be strategic vs Applying for jobs in random industries.

Ask yourself: What industries are growing? 🤔
For example:
UAE = AI & tax jobs
Oman = finance roles (Since Income Tax was announced)
Saudi = tourism careers

📝 Update your CV. Don't let it pick up dust. Keep it relevant.

Use keywords. Tailor it. Have multiple versions.

🕺 Adapt your style. What has worked for you in the past? What has not?

Don’t ask for jobs. Bring value. Show how you solve problems for employers.

🤝🏼 Relationships matter
Be visible. Be helpful. Be remembered.

My article is out and published on Medium. Click on the following link on my bio to read the full article.

❓ QUESTION: What is a more accurate metaphor that might describe the UAE and the Gulf region’s demographic and cultural mix, a vegetable soup or a fruit salad?

💡 I often pose this question in the workshops i deliver on cultural awareness and integration skills.

💡 While the question might seem strange to most of you, however, my purpose behind it is to challenge the common perception that the country is a ‘melting pot’. Something i have been hearing quite often in advertisements, public forums and from some of people I talk to about the topic.

❗️I've always argued that the UAE specifically, and the gulf region in general is anything but a melting pot!

The sooner we recognise and embrace this reality, the better prepared we are to live, work and possibly thrive in a fast growing and changing region.

Still need more convincing about what my viewpoint on this?

Take a drive across the roads of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah during peak traffic hours.

Experienced UAE drivers cannot deny the fact that they often assume what nationality, gender and age group another driver is simply based on the way they drive.

That speeding white and tinted Landcruiser flashing you with his/her headlights in the back to coerce you away from the fast lane? You think “He must be a ….”.
That salon driving 80 on a 120 km/hr lane, hitting the brakes on the first sight of a radar or a ‘Salik’ toll gate (Why even do that?). You murmur to yourself angrily “He/She must be a ….”.

Another place where you can observe the cultural dynamics among people in the region is the typical workplace of private sector companies....

💡 Read the rest of the article through the link below to understand why I believe the UAE and the GCC are not really 'melting pots', and what might this mean for you as an employer, employee or jobseeker.
