Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) The Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA) is one of the oldest International Committees of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

With over 1,000 members coming from about 85 countries, CECA is also one of its largest Committees. Members are professionals working in different sectors of the museum field or in institutions related to this field, as educators, curators, professors, communication agents or interpreters interested in education and cultural action applied to a particular sort of heritage.

Special Interest Group (SIG) Professional Development of museum educators
Coordinator: Wencke Maderbacher, ICOM CECA chairperson

For the coming year, we will move from our own sustainability and professional wellbeing, through difficult conversations, knowledge and power, co-creation and AI, to multigenerational teams, impact, career development and leadership.

For most of the sessions, I am looking for short examples from practice to help us get the conversation started.
This could be a good practice example from your own museum, something that did not work quite as expected, an interesting experiment, or simply a colleague somewhere in the world who is doing something worth sharing.
So, if you think: “We actually did something around this…” or “I know exactly the person who should talk about this…” please reach out to me 😊
The contribution does not need to be a polished presentation. In many cases, a 5–10 minute example is more than enough. The aim is to create space for exchange, questions and learning from each other.

Greetings from Yerevan 🇦🇲✨

This week, Wencke Maderbacher, ICOM CECA chairperson, is participating at the 15th Advisory Forum of European Cultural Routes in Yerevan, Armenia
Representing ICOM CECA and Museum education in cultural heritage non-formal learning experiences together with EU representatives and experts from the educational sector.

The 15th Annual Advisory Forum on the Cultural Routes is dedicated to deepening the role of Education in promoting sustainable heritage through the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, focusing on “Routes through Time and Cultures: Education for Sustainable Heritage”.

The 15th edition places education and heritage at the centre of its agenda. Culture and education are mutually reinforcing forces that enrich societies, promote inclusion, and ensure access to knowledge and heritage for all.
As indicated by the Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society education is key to an understanding of cultural heritage as a driver of the cultural economy, and a means of integrating heritage into learning processes at all levels. Education not only safeguards our cultural legacy, but also inspires and empowers future generations, transmitting values and nurturing a shared European identity.

The principal output of the Forum will be a Recommendations Framework providing guiding principles, strategic directions, and practical approaches for the programme of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. The framework will support Routes in developing stronger and impactful educational activities, integrating cultural heritage into diverse learning practices, and fostering inclusive participation.
