If there is one thing i have learned in raising a child with autism, i would begin by saying this, we should be kind and forgiving to ourselves. Each stage is different, so forgive yourself for not knowing better, but always strive to learn and DO better. Allow yourself to grieve for the child you wanted, but not too long that you fail to see, accept, love and appreciate the child you are blessed with. Always remember to recognize their progress-not all progress need to be obvious or loud. Progress, no matter how small should be seen and celebrated. Furthermore, be the calm that your child needs, and do not allow yourself to join the chaos-a disregulated parent cannot calm a disregulated child. If you cant do that, then take a step back. And finally, on your difficult days, always remember that it could be worse. So always try to find the silver lining in everything.
