Themed Presentation - Junior B - Role play - Cafe &Cinema!
Last week at Special Care Centre we looked at the themed presentations for each classroom. Through this week we will take you through how each presentation went.
Here is a brief of the class presentation for Junior B. The theme selected was, Role play - Cafe & Cinema!
Role play is simply a type of pretend play where children get into character and act out a role or real life context in a make-believe setting. Role play based on Cafe and Cinema was planned as a theme for the Junior B students.
As a learning tool a field trip to a cafe was organized where the students understood the roles played by different people in the cafe and how they work. Class activities included the students taking turns to be the ticket seller at a theatre, a cashier, a waiter holding a notepad to take orders.
On the class presentation day a make-believe setting of a Cafe and Cinema theatre, with sound effects were set up. The Cafe role play included taking orders, reading the menu, serving the food, writing up the bill and counting the money. Cinema theatre experience was to sell tickets, scan the tickets, ushering in the movie watchers, finding the seat numbers and counting money.
The activities promoted calculation skills, recognizing and naming coins, counting, reading, and many more such skills. They learnt about money, about politeness and the right way to ask questions and respond.
Seeing the children's enthusiasm and willingness to learn, teaching through role play seemed like a very effective teaching mechanism.
**Stay tuned, coming up tomorrow, will be an update on another themed presentation for Junior A - Community Helpers - Medical Staff.
