Thank you to our volunteers who joined the Monitoring Native Trees event at Wadi Wurayah. Together, we tracked the growth of the Samar, Sidr and Ghaf trees planted last year and assessed the success of restoration efforts.

Managed by the , Wadi Wurayah National Park is a rich biodiversity hotspot. By restoring native trees that are well adapted to dry conditions, we aim to support carbon capture and protect biodiversity – including vital pollinators. This, in turn, supports local livelihoods that rely on honey production.

استعادة الأشجار المحلية في وادي الوريعة
شكرًا لمتطوّعي الذين شاركوا في فعالية متابعة تطور الأشجار المحلية في وادي الوريعة. معًا، تابعنا نمو أشجار السمر والسدر والغاف التي زرعناها العام الماضي، وقيّمنا مدى نجاح جهود الاستعادة.
بإدارة هيئة الفجيرة للبيئة، يعد وادي الوريعة موطن لتنوّع بيولوجي غني. ومن خلال استعادة الأشجار المحلية المتكيفة مع الظروف المناخية القاسية، نهدف إلى دعم عملية احتجاز الكربون وحماية التنوّع البيولوجي؛ بما في ذلك الملقِّحات الهامة. ويسهم ذلك بدوره في دعم مصادر الدخل للمجتمعات المحلية التي تعتمد على إنتاج العسل.

Climate action moves faster when knowledge is shared.

At the UAE Alliance for Climate Action’s ( ) latest Member Spotlight hosted by Expo City Dubai, UACA members came together to deep dive into Expo City’s decarbonization journey.

Expo City Dubai shared real-world insights and decarbonization progress, beyond Expo 2020 and COP28 to the present, including a tour of their 3D master plan.

UACA Member Spotlights are designed to create space for honest peer-to-peer exchange, helping organizations learn from one another, collaborate on solutions, and accelerate collective progress towards the UAE’s ambition.

What’s really driving climate progress across the UAE private sector?

The UAE Alliance for Climate Action’s ( ) Navigating Decarbonization report offers a first-of-its-kind snapshot of how organizations across the UAE are progressing on climate action, what opportunities lay ahead, and what’s needed next.

The survey report was launched earlier this year at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week ( ), and sets the stage for stronger, evidence-based public-private dialogue to accelerate decarbonization in support of the UAE goal.

UACA is convened by Emirates Nature-WWF, endorsed by Ministry of Climate Change & Environment وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة and supported by HSBC UAE.

Exciting news: The African Wildcat was spotted in Wadi Wurayah for the first time in ten years!

This rare nocturnal predator triggered one of our motion-sensing camera traps in the national park, which is managed by هيئة الفجيرة للبيئة - Fujairah Environment Authority . With sandy-coloured fur that helps it blend into rugged mountain landscapes, the wildcat is a natural predator built for life in the wild, helping keep ecosystems in balance.

Huge thanks to our Leaders of Change volunteers who helped install and monitor motion-sensor cameras, and to our partner Mashreq for powering , the UAE’s wildlife mapping initiative that made this discovery possible.

خبرٌ مهم: رُصد القط البري الأفريقي في وادي الوريعة لأول مرة منذ عشر سنوات!

قام هذا المفترس الليلي النادر بتفعيل إحدى كاميرات المراقبة المزودة بمستشعرات الحركة في المحمية الوطنية، التي تُديرها هيئة الفجيرة للبيئة - Fujairah Environment Authority. يتميز القط البري بفروه الرملي اللون الذي يُساعده على التمويه في المنطق الجبلية الوعرة، وهو مفترسٌ طبيعي مُهيأ للعيش في البرية، ويُساهم في الحفاظ على توازن النظم البيئية.

شكرًا جزيلًا لمتطوعي برنامج “قادة التغيير” الذين ساعدوا في تركيب ومراقبة كاميرات استشعار الحركة، ولشريكنا Mashreq لدعمه مبادرة التي أتاحت هذا الاكتشاف، وهي مبادرة محلية لرسم خرائط الحياة البرية.

📸 Know what a snap station is? Let’s find out together!
These simple camera stations help us track how ecosystems grow and recover over time.

How does it work?
Place your phone on the station, snap a photo and send it by scanning the QR code. Simple as that!
2 minutes is all it takes to contribute to our ongoing monitoring efforts.

You’ll find these two stations along the newly opened Umm Al Quwain Mangrove Reserve ecotrail. There are also have two snap stations in the Wadi Wurayah National Park, both overlooking research plots studying native tree reforestation using different restoration techniques. Keep an eye out! 👀🌿

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Wadi Wurayah National Park, the UAE’s first Mountain Protected Area, managed by the (هيئة الفجيرة للبيئة - Fujairah Environment Authority).

🎥Watch as our volunteers explore the Hidden Oasis, hiking through rugged terrain to reach freshwater pools. Here, they carefully survey Arabian toads, an important step in monitoring the health of the overall ecosystem.

A calm yet powerful citizen science experience, where every observation contributes to meaningful conservation and research.
