Happy International Nurses Day! 🩺❤️

Today, we celebrate the incredible nurses who dedicate their lives to caring for others, especially on this year's theme: "Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives."

We want to shine a special spotlight on one of our own, the amazing Amal, a volunteer nurse with Operation Smile UAE. In the touching video above, Amal shares her passion for nursing and the profound impact of her work. "I became a nurse to care for people during their most vulnerable moments, especially children and families," she says.

Amal recently took on the vital role of a pre/post-operative nurse educator during our April short-term surgical program. In this position, she was instrumental in teaching and empowering the next generation of nurses, sharing her knowledge and ensuring the highest standards of care for our patients. Her dedication is a perfect example of how empowered nurses save lives and shape the future of healthcare.

With Operation Smile, Amal emphasizes that it's "more than just surgeries; it's restoring hope and confidence." Her work, and the work of all our volunteer nurses, creates unforgettable memories and transforms lives.

When we think of global healthcare, we often picture doctors, hospitals, and medical teams. But behind every lasting movement for change, there’s a force that’s just as powerful — young people. 🌍✨

At Operation Smile, youth empowerment has been part of our story since 1982.
When our co‑founders Dr. Bill and Kathy Magee brought their 13‑year‑old daughter Brigette on their first medical program to the Philippines, they saw how her compassion and curiosity made a real impact.

From that trip on, we knew:
👉 When young people serve others, they don’t just help — they grow into the compassionate leaders our world needs.

⭐ MENASC 2026: Turning Passion Into Purpose
This year, the MENA Student Conference (MENASC 2026) continues that legacy with the theme “Empowering Youth, Transforming Lives.”

🎓 Students from across the UAE will come together for four incredible days filled with learning, leadership, and collaboration.
They’ll explore topics like Cleft Care, Nutrition, Speech and Language, and Community Advocacy, gaining lessons that reach far beyond the classroom.

At MENASC, students discover their voices, share stories that inspire, and build the confidence to say:

“I can make a difference.” 💪

Operation Smile UAE would like to extend our deepest thanks Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital for their incredible support in hosting our recent post-surgery follow-up visits.

A special note of appreciation to Dr Derek Mendonca and Dr. Muhammad Ali Adnan two of our dedicated volunteer surgeons and valued members of the Al Jalila team, who graciously gave their time to see our patients — with the hospital’s generous permission to use their clinic for the one-week post-surgery assessments.

Thanks to this partnership, 16 of our patients from Dubai and the Northern Emirates were able to complete their follow-up consultations locally, reducing travel time for families and allowing guardians to take less time away from work while ensuring every child received the highest standard of care.

We are truly grateful for the continued collaboration and kindness extended by the entire team at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital. Partnerships like these make compassionate, accessible health care possible — and remind us what can be achieved when we work together for our patients and their families.🤝💙
