10 years ago, a common goal brought us together. 🌱🤝

Aware of the increasing biodiversity loss crisis, we joined forces to ensure that the most important sites for the persistence of species, ecosystems and all life on Earth are identified and protected. 🌎

💡Now, a little over a decade later, we have identified +16,600 sites, helping countries deliver effective conservation and achieve international conservation agreements like the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Expanding the global network for nature conservation! 🌍

📊 The 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 (𝗪𝗗𝗞𝗕𝗔) introduces 106 new sites in Antarctica and the High Seas, and 62 new sites across 5 countries—Australia, Canada, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. In addition, 624 existing KBAs across 38 countries were reassessed to equip decision-makers with up-to-date data.

✅ Qualifying species across global KBAs span plants, birds, and amphibians, alongside invertebrates, reptiles, mammals, and fish. 🐠

Furthermore, a new State–Pressure–Response monitoring protocol launched in August 2026 makes tracking changes inside KBAs over time more consistent and accessible globally.

🌿 Monitoring matters. Now there’s a new tool to help.

The new KBA Monitoring Platform is now available through the World Database of Key Biodiversity Areas (WDKBA), helping users track the state of biodiversity, pressures on sites, and conservation responses over time.
By combining local knowledge with global datasets, the platform supports more consistent monitoring—and better-informed conservation decisions.

Uncover our enhanced Site and Map search functions, designed to make the KBA data searching process smoother than ever. With these tools, you’ll be able to:

📍 Search KBAs by name or ID
📄 Access site factsheets—now with a map view available
🌏 Filter the data by country or region
🦧 Filter your search by criteria, classification, species, and much more!
🗺️ Alternate the Map view between topographic and satellite image

➡️ Also, you’ll be able to alternate between the Site and Map tools without losing the search filters applied.
