Rural women are key in enhancing rural livelihoods. They are the corner stone in driving the development discourse in their communities. Celebrating Women as Custodians of Seed ✨🌱

Across generations, women have safeguarded the diversity of our crops, preserving traditional knowledge and ensuring resilient food systems. Their role as custodians of seed is not only about protecting biodiversity, but also about nurturing communities, sustaining culture, and securing the future of farming.

Through out this week, we honor the women who continue to lead in agro-biodiversity—guardians of heritage, champions of sustainability, and stewards of life itself.

We participated in the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority Zimparks Community Conservation Partner Engagement Workshop in collaboration with Maliasili Initiatives, which brought together local conservation organisations in Zimbabwe working outside wildlife protected areas to strengthen alignment, collaboration, and learning in support of Zimbabwe’s community-led conservation agenda. The workshop provided a platform for ZimParks to share its 2026 CAMPFIRE and community conservation priorities, reflect on the Parks and Wildlife Amendment Act (2025) and its implementation, and engage partners on how ongoing and planned initiatives can contribute to national objectives. We had an opportunity to share experiences, data, and lessons from our work, and to explore complementarities across organisations.

Its field diary season once again!

We've been out and about in the field from our head office to the small holder farmers in UMP, Murewa, Zaka and Tsholotsho and the results are incredible!

Instead of checking for problems we are looking for ecological solutions that the ecosystem provides for itself. This looks like

Good Bug count 🐞- by avoiding harsh chemicals we protect the allies that protect our crops
Soil Protection and Health with mulch and composts cushioning the soil from the dry spell we are now facing🟫💦
Biodiversity at work- mixed cropping, diversification, intercropping! Growing different crops together we are confusing the "bag bugs" and feeding the soil with different nutrients at the same time 🌻🫘🐌🌾

To top it off, we had the pleasure of hosting the Gene Bank Curator from the Genetic Resources and Biotechnology Institute supporting our work on Farmer Field School seed multiplication and seed development programs across Zimbabwe
