The Match a Meal campaign
In 2006, during a time of political and socio-economic turmoil which included historic hyperinflation, Ezekiel Zekiya Mudimu, Director of the association, proposed a wonderful idea. An organisation in Zimbabwe that would strive to alleviate poverty and break the cycle of child marriage which leaves many young girls and women without an education and no voice to decide their future.
The idea behind the Match a Meal campaign is to donate what you have paid for one of your meals today. Your donation will help Simuka Africa to provide monthly supplies of basic food to girls and young women at risk and survivors of child marriages.
Another exciting and vitally important aspect of this campaign is that your donation can help Simuka Africa to provide skills training and starting capital for income generating activities. Ayera Poloni is a 24-year-old mother who is struggling to raise her 6-year-old child. Married as a teenager and divorced when pregnant, Ayera dropped out of school due to education fees challenges. With help from Simuka Africa, Ayera is enrolled in the cosmetology course at NVTC and believes the course can help her to generate skills needed to get the money that her child and herself are needing.
This year it was announced that Simuka Africa won the UN Online Volunteering Award 2017. Through its focus in the area of girls and women empowerment the organisation has gained credibility among the UN, Government and other partners. With your support Simuka Africa can continue the fight against child marriages, helping to prevent them but also to rebuild and transform the lives of girls and young women who are survivors.
