HON. KAITANO URGES ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR WAR VETERANS AND THEIR CHILDREN
_Mudzi West MP calls for accelerated healthcare and timely education assistance under Second Republic_

HARARE— Mudzi West Member of Parliament, Hon. Knowledge Kaitano, has called for the strengthening of existing government programs for war veterans and the children of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle heroes, as part of advancing the Second Republic’s “leaving no one behind” agenda.

Addressing the National Assembly this week, Hon. Kaitano expressed concern over the "accelerated death rate among war veterans" due to age-related and chronic illnesses, and urged Parliament and Government to prioritise their healthcare needs.

“Our liberation heroes are the foundation of our independence and the development we are witnessing today under the leadership of His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa,” Hon. Kaitano said.
“As they advance in age, we have a national duty to ensure they access quality healthcare with dignity. Let’s prioritise them on medical issues.”

Strengthening Healthcare for Liberation Heroes

The Mudzi West MP proposed building on current health policies by expanding access to medical services for war veterans across the country.

He suggested enhancing mobile clinics for rural constituencies such as Mudzi, ensuring consistent supply of medication, and fast-tracking treatment for registered war veterans in public health institutions.

“Supporting our war veterans with accessible healthcare complements the Second Republic’s broader social protection and welfare programs,” Hon. Kaitano noted. “This is how we honor their sacrifice while they are still with us.”

Call for Timely Educational Support for Children of Liberation War Veterans

Hon. Kaitano also raised the welfare of *children of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle participants*, highlighting challenges with the timely payment of educational assistance.

He told the House that delays in the processing of school and university fees have, in some cases, resulted in learners not receiving results at O-Level, A-Level, and tertiary level on time.

“This should not happen to the children of our war veterans,” Hon. Kaitano said. “These young people are part of the future we are building. Government has put in place policies to support them, and I urge relevant ministries to strengthen coordination so that assistance reaches beneficiaries on time and without interruption.”

He added that ensuring educational continuity for the children of liberation war veterans aligns with national development goals and invests in human capital for Vision 2030.

Several Members of Parliament supported Hon. Kaitano’s submissions, reaffirming commitment to the welfare of war veterans and their dependents as provided for in national policy.
