Today, Zimbabwe Youth for Impaired Persons Trust (ZYIPT) conducted interviews with caregivers of persons with disabilities in Dangamvura to better understand the challenges they face in accessing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services and ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities are respected and protected.

The insights gathered from these engagements are critical in identifying existing gaps in service delivery, policy implementation, and rights protection. This information will contribute to evidence-based advocacy and help inform policymakers, service providers, and duty bearers on areas that require urgent attention and improvement.

At ZYIPT, we remain committed to promoting equal access to health services, dignity, and the realization of the rights of persons with disabilities.

Young people with disabilities came together to discuss the health challenges they face, particularly in accessing quality Sexual and Reproductive Health services, and to propose practical solutions for improving their well-being and inclusion.

Their voices and experiences are essential in shaping policies and services that respond to their needs. As we say, "Nothing for us without us", meaningful participation of persons with disabilities is key to achieving inclusive development.

This engagement supports Zimbabwe's National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), which promotes equitable access to quality health services for all, including persons with disabilities.

Meet our youthful enumerators who will be working together with our Research Consultancy team in implementing our research-based advocacy initiative on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for Persons with Disabilities under the project:

“Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Persons with Disabilities through Research and Advocacy in Mutare District.”

These young professionals are playing a vital role in data collection, community engagement, and amplifying the voices and experiences of persons with disabilities. Their dedication and passion for inclusion, equality, and evidence-based advocacy will contribute greatly towards promoting accessible and inclusive SRHR services and policies in Mutare District.

Together, we are advancing disability inclusion, human rights, and meaningful participation for all.

Zimbabwe Youth For Impaired Persons Trust is currently conducting community interviews across several suburbs in Mutare District to better understand the challenges young people with disabilities face in accessing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services.

This important work is being carried out under our programme, Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Persons with Disabilities through Research and Advocacy.

Through these engagements, we are amplifying voices, gathering lived experiences, and strengthening evidence to advocate for inclusive, accessible, and responsive SRH services for all.
