It is reported that, he went into an argument with the parents, about which school he has to go for form one. The parents wanted him to go to St John's senior, and he wanted to go to Peterhouse. So he then decided to take his life with a gun which was in the house. His dad owns a security company so he had a gun in the house.

This heartbreaking reminds us of just how important it is to prioritise the mental health and wellbeing of our young people.

When young people feel unheard, overwhelmed, or unable to see a way forward, the consequences can be devastating. While we may never fully understand what someone is going through, one thing is clear: every child deserves to feel listened to, valued, and supported.

As parents, caregivers, educators, and communities, we have a shared responsibility to create safe spaces where children can express themselves openly without fear of judgement. Listening with empathy, involving them in decisions that affect their lives, and recognising their emotions can make a profound difference.

Su***de should never be seen as the only option. With timely psychosocial support, open conversations, and access to appropriate mental health services, hope can be restored and lives can be changed.

At MaRODO, we are committed to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of every young person. We don't just talk about mental health, we educate, advocate, and provide psychosocial support that empowers individuals, families, schools, and communities.

If you or someone you know needs support, please don't suffer in silence. Reach out. Together, we can build a culture where every young person feels seen, heard, and supported.

Building your Mental Health does not have to happen all at once. It can start with small, everyday choices that support your mind and body.

Getting enough rest, drinking water, eating nourishing meals, practising gratitude, setting boundaries and asking for help are all pieces of the bigger picture. Each one matters.

Choose one piece to focus on today and build from there, at your own pace.

On Tuesday, we held our inaugural planning meeting with the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) Department of Psychology to map out the implementation of the Helping Everyone Achieve Robust Thoughts and Souls (HEARTS) Initiative, a project we are co-implementing.

This partnership marks the beginning of a collaborative effort to promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing among young people across Masvingo Province.

Key discussions focused on strategies to mobilize the financial resources needed for successful implementation, including pursuing grant opportunities and engaging potential sponsors. The meeting also agreed to launch a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on peer psychosocial support, beginning with young people drawn from each ward in Masvingo Urban Constituency.

The team also took note of the rising cases of substance abuse among young people, particularly in urban communities, and resolved that addressing this growing challenge should be a key focus of the project. In addition, the meeting recognized climate change as a major concern in rural areas, with its effects increasingly impacting the mental health and wellbeing of young people. These issues will be considered in shaping the project's interventions.

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Samson, Chairperson of the GZU Department of Psychology, and our Team Leader, Acknowledge Mawere.

Together, we are laying the foundation for stronger, more resilient communities by investing in the mental health and wellbeing of our young people.

DON'T LET STRESS KILL YOU!

So... Spain lifted the trophy and Argentina fans are currently drafting appeal letters to FIFA, VAR, destiny, and their ancestors. 😭⚽

Jokes aside, football has a funny way of affecting our emotions. One minute you're planning a victory parade, the next you're questioning all your life choices.

If yesterday's result has you feeling low, remember, it's okay to take a break from the football debates and memes. And if the disappointment is hitting harder than expected, we've got you.

Reach out to MaRODO for free psychosocial support. Because while football is a game, your mental wellbeing is not.

Young people's voices must be heard by leaders and authorities, as they directly experience the situations being discussed. In this video, a young advocate urges the inclusion of compulsory mental health care training/modules in the curriculum for all general nurses from the start of their training. This, she suggests, would increase access to mental health care and support, minimize stereotyping and discrimination, and address the scarcity of mental health caregivers or nurses. The young speaker highlighted the significant mental health challenges faced by young people daily. Her contribution was part of the SRHR dialogue hosted by the Parliament of Zimbabwe's Parliamentary Youth Caucus and SADC-PF in Masvingo.

Not everyone who is struggling looks like they’re struggling. ❤️

Some people cry for help.

Others go to work.
They laugh at the jokes.
They answer, “I’m good.”
They keep showing up.

The truth is, suicidal thoughts and mental health struggles don’t have a “look.” Someone can be smiling on the outside while quietly fighting the hardest battle of their life.

That’s why kindness matters.
That’s why checking in matters.
And that’s why a simple conversation could mean more than you’ll ever know.

Today, send a text. Make the call. Ask someone how they’re really doing—and be willing to listen.

If this message resonates with you, share it. You never know who might need the reminder that they’re not alone. ❤️
