Youthspotlight Joins Ethiopia–Zimbabwe Diplomatic Engagement and Tree-Planting Initiative
Youthspotlight was part of a significant tree-planting initiative and diplomatic engagement between Zimbabwe and a delegation from Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party, bringing together young people, diplomats, government representatives and environmental stakeholders around the shared responsibility of protecting the environment.
The engagement was attended by the Ambassador of Ethiopia to Zimbabwe, H.E. Rashid Mohammed, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and the Ministry of Environment.
The Guest of Honour, Minister of Youth, Empowerment and Vocational Services, Hon. Tino Machakaire, called for stronger bilateral cooperation between Zimbabwe and Ethiopia in climate innovation, technological advancement and environmental stewardship.
“ Planting is the beginning. A tree needs to be watered, nurtured and well taken care of. We can only protect our future if we love our environment,” said Hon. Machakaire."
For Youthspotlight, environmental stewardship remains one of our key areas of focus. The organisation's environmental agenda encompasses climate change mitigation and adaptation, wildlife conservation, forestry, wildlife management, ecosystem management, environmental awareness and smart agriculture.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for discussions around COP32, which will be hosted by Ethiopia, marking an important moment for Africa to strengthen its voice and leadership in global climate action.
The tree-planting initiative served as a reminder that meaningful environmental action begins with small, practical steps, while the diplomatic engagement highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, youth participation and shared responsibility in building a sustainable future for Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and the continent at large.
