Europe Day 2026 in Harare at the EU Residence-celebrating unity in diversity.
It was a pleasure to welcome to the stand of the Embassy of Greece the Guest of Honor, Honorable Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Dr Frederic Shava.
Many thanks to my team Ms Vera Markopoulou and Ms Anna Fotiadou for their support, as well as Ms Eleni Avgidis (The Greek Deli) who provided the Greek delicacies offered to the guests at our stand.

The Greek Independence Day was celebrated with utmost joy and pride in Harare, at the reception organised by the Embassy of Greece, on 25 March.
We are grateful to all the Greeks, Cypriots, Zimbabwean Dignitaries, the Diplomatic Corps, our Zimbabwean friends and friends of Greece, who honoured us with their presence. We extend deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to our generous sponsors and to all those who contributed to the success of the event.
The space where the reception took place, was also hosting an art exhibition, tribute to the legacy of the Greek-Zimbabwean artist, Helen Lieros (1940-2021), a teacher, mentor and inspiration for generations of Zimbabwean artists.
The Zimbabwean mucisian Mary Anibal, accompanied us with her special voice and songs, while the National Anthems of Greece and Zimbabwe were proudly performed by the Choir of the Hellenic Academy.

The doxology for the Greek Independence Day was held yesterday, at the Hellenic Schools' Chapel. The Ambassador of Greece, Mrs Anna Farrou and the President of the Harare and District Hellenic Community, Mr John Economou addressed keynote messages, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
The celebration was continued at the Hellenic Schools, where the students, under the guidance of the teachers of the Hellenic Department, commemorated the Greek Independence Day, with an emphasis on the 200th anniversary of the heroic Exodus of Mesolongi, one of the pivotal events of the Greek Revolution.

Μήνυμα του Προέδρου της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας
κ. Κωνσταντίνου Αν. Τασούλα
προς τους Απόδημους Έλληνες
για την Επέτειο της Εθνικής Εορτής της 25ης Μαρτίου

Αγαπητές και αγαπητοί συμπατριώτες,
Με ιδιαίτερη συγκίνηση τιμούμε και φέτος την επέτειο της Εθνικής Παλιγγενεσίας, ενός καθοριστικού ιστορικού σταθμού που οδήγησε στη δημιουργία του σύγχρονου ελληνικού κράτους και σφράγισε την πορεία του απανταχού Ελληνισμού, χαλυβδώνοντας την εθνική του συνείδηση.
Στο πνεύμα αυτό, η σκέψη μας δεν στρέφεται μόνο στους αγωνιστές που ύψωσαν στην πατρώα γη το λάβαρο της Ελευθερίας, αλλά και στους Έλληνες της Διασποράς, των οποίων η συμβολή υπήρξε καθοριστική για την αναγέννηση του Έθνους, μετά από 400 και πλέον χρόνια οθωμανικού ζυγού.
Η Επανάσταση του 1821 δεν ήταν μόνο ένας ένδοξος ένοπλος αγώνας, αλλά και μια μάχη πνευματική, με εφόδια τις διαχρονικές αξίες του Ελληνισμού και τα διδάγματα του ευρωπαϊκού Διαφωτισμού. Η ελληνική διασπορά, σε αγαστή συνεργασία με το κίνημα του Φιλελληνισμού, μετέτρεψε πόλεις όπως το Παρίσι, η Μασσαλία, το Λονδίνο, η Βιέννη, η Οδησσός, η Τεργέστη και τόσες άλλες σε ζωντανούς πυρήνες υποστήριξης του Αγώνα. Στους τόπους αυτούς, οι Έλληνες της Διασποράς διατήρησαν ζωντανή την ελληνική παιδεία και καλλιέργησαν τα ιδεώδη της ελευθερίας και της εθνικής ανεξαρτησίας. Εκεί θεμελιώθηκε η πνευματική αναγέννηση του υπόδουλου Έθνους, συγκροτήθηκε η Φιλική Εταιρεία, συγκεντρώθηκαν οι αναγκαίοι πόροι και διαμορφώθηκε το δίκτυο που κατέστησε δυνατή την έναρξη και διαρκή υποστήριξη του Αγώνα.
Οι Έλληνες της Διασποράς στάθηκαν τότε στο πλευρό της πατρίδας, με ανιδιοτέλεια, με αυταπάρνηση και απαράμιλλο σθένος. Κι εσείς, συνεχίζοντας αυτή την σπουδαία παρακαταθήκη, εξακολουθείτε να στηρίζετε με όλες σας τις δυνάμεις την Ελλάδα, προβάλλοντας τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό και διατηρώντας ζωντανή την πανάρχαια γλώσσα και τις διαχρονικές αξίες μας, σε κάθε γωνιά του κόσμου.
Ενός κόσμου που, δυστυχώς, μαστίζεται σήμερα από αλλεπάλληλες κρίσεις, ατέρμονες ένοπλες συρράξεις, εντεινόμενη ανασφάλεια και αστάθεια. Από την Ουκρανία έως τη Μέση Ανατολή, και από την Αφρική έως την Ανατολική Μεσόγειο, οι αρχές του Χάρτη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών και οι κανόνες του διεθνούς δικαίου παραβιάζονται καθημερινά, θέτοντας σε αμφισβήτηση τη διεθνή τάξη που οικοδομήθηκε μετά το τέλος του Β’ Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου.
Σε αυτό το δυσοίωνο περιβάλλον, η Ελλάδα παραμένει ένας σταθερός φάρος δημοκρατίας, ειρήνης και σταθερότητας. Με ρεαλισμό, πίστη στις δυνάμεις μας και προσήλωση στη διεθνή νομιμότητα, υπερασπιζόμαστε την ανεξαρτησία, την εθνική κυριαρχία και την εδαφική ακεραιότητα της πατρίδας μας, καθώς και τα δικαιώματα και την υπόσταση του Οικουμενικού Ελληνισμού. Η πρόσφατη αποστολή ελληνικών αεροναυτικών δυνάμεων στην Κύπρο εξέπεμψε ένα συμβολικό και ουσιαστικό μήνυμα ότι η Ελλάδα θα στέκεται πάντα στο πλευρό του Κυπριακού Ελληνισμού.
Την ίδια στιγμή, η σκέψη και η καρδιά μας είναι με τους Έλληνες, που βρίσκονται σε περιοχές δοκιμαζόμενες από τον πόλεμο είτε στην Ουκρανία είτε φυσικά στη Μέση Ανατολή. Γνωρίζουμε ότι πολλοί από εσάς βιώνετε καθημερινή αβεβαιότητα και ανησυχία για την ασφάλεια των οικογενειών σας. Η ελληνική Πολιτεία παρακολουθεί με διαρκή εγρήγορση τις εξελίξεις και στέκεται αρωγός στο πλευρό σας, αξιοποιώντας κάθε διαθέσιμο μέσο.
Ελληνίδες και Έλληνες του εξωτερικού,
Η Ομογένεια αποτελεί μία ζωντανή δύναμη που εργάζεται, προοδεύει και αντηχεί τη φωνή της Ελλάδας πολύ πέρα από τα σύνορά της. Την ημέρα αυτή, λοιπόν, σας εκφράζω την ειλικρινή ευγνωμοσύνη όλων μας. Η Ελλάδα σας τιμά και είναι υπερήφανη που αποτελείτε αναπόσπαστο μέρος της εθνικής μας πορείας. Ας μην ξεχνάμε ποτέ ότι ο Ελληνισμός επιβιώνει και μεγαλουργεί όποτε στέκεται ενωμένος και αποφασιστικός απέναντι στις προκλήσεις και τις δυσκολίες της κάθε εποχής.
Με αυτές τις σκέψεις, σας καλώ να εορτάσουμε τη μεγάλη αυτή ημέρα της επετείου της 25ης Μαρτίου και του Ευαγγελισμού της Θεοτόκου με χαρά και υπερηφάνεια. Εύχομαι ολόψυχα σε όλες και όλους εσάς χρόνια πολλά με υγεία και πρόοδο!

The Embassy of Greece participated today in the Francophonie Buffet, at Alliance Francaise, the closing event of the two weeks Francophonie Festival, in Harare.
