A day of joy and pride for Greece.
The wider area of Mount Olympus, Greece's highest mountain and the legendary home of the Twelve Olympian Gods, was unanimously inscribed on UNESCO's World Cultural and Natural Heritage List, during the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Busan-South Korea.
Mount Olympus has been added to the List as a mixed site heritage, one of the most demanding categories, requiring documentation of both cultural and natural value, thus recognising sites of outstanding universal value for both their cultural and natural significance.
The inscription brings Greece's total number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to 21, including three mixed sites-Mount Olympus, Meteora and Mount Athos.

"It's easy to break down and destroy. The heroes are those who make peace and build" - Nelson Mandela
Today we commemorate Nelson Mandela's lifetime service to humanity.

🌍🇬🇷🫂Today, on Nelson Mandela Day, we pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the man, whose unwavering commitment to justice, equality, reconciliation, and human dignity continues to inspire people around the world.

This day serves as a call to action for individuals, communities, and organisations to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles and take meaningful steps toward achieving positive impact for humanity.

As we honour his life and values, may we each strive to contribute, through acts of service and compassion, to building a more inclusive, peaceful, and tolerant world.🫂🇬🇷🌍

--

Today we had a very interesting discussion, hosted by Gibson Nyikadzino, for his podcast "The Brief" (Zimpapers TV Network), on "Women in Diplomacy", where we talked about the assets that female diplomats bring to the table, as well as the value and necessity for full and equal participation of women in diplomacy as a means to sustainable and lasting peace and security and effective global solutions.
Greece is committed to gender mainstreaming and actively champions the meaningful participation of women in diplomacy, including in leadership positions, as key element of our foreign policy. Currently, the percentage of women serving as Heads of Greek Diplomatic Missions abroad has increased to 38%, while in the Headquarters in Athens, nearly half (49%) of senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are held by women.
