Our group of 9 members from the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development Zimbabwe (IAPDZ), consisting of 3 gentlemen and 6 women, inclusive of 2 youths, male and a female, recently had the opportunity to tour the Hubbard House on the 2nd of August. These are Never Shezharume, Hellen Guramombe, Cosmas Mupariwa, Marble Chengetai, Conference Musonza, Tryphine Mupavara, Difficult Sibanda, Julia Pantiseni, and Judith Dzinza. This was our second visit, following the grand opening on June 28, and we were excited to delve deeper into the life and legacy of L. Ron Hubbard.
The tour, which took place from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, allowed us to explore each and every apartment and learn about Hubbard's life through artifacts, properties, and pictures. IAPD Zimbabwe, as Peace Advocates and Leaders, we gained valuable insights into Hubbard's history, particularly his bold stance against dictatorship and racial discrimination during his time in Zimbabwe in 1966.
Hubbard's anti-discriminatory policies resonated with us, and we were inspired by his actions, such as dining with and employing blacks during a time of prevalent racial discriminatory policies. Testimonials that were played on a screen from his employees further highlighted his kind and non-discriminatory treatment of others.
The tour also taught us about effective time management, as Hubbard was able to write numerous books during his lifetime. His ability to achieve significant work in just four months in Zimbabwe was impressive. Moreover, despite his established position, he prioritized the needs of others, particularly the marginalized, which challenged us to think about our own roles as leaders in bridging the gap between the elite and the vulnerable.
The interactive nature of the tour allowed us to ask questions and receive satisfying answers, enhancing our understanding of Hubbard's life and legacy. Overall, this experience has inspired us to reflect on our own leadership and commitment to serving others, and we look forward to applying these lessons in our work within IAPDZ.
