This past weekend, the world celebrated Mother’s Day, a tribute to the women whose love, resilience, sacrifice, and leadership shape generations.

At Higherlife Foundation, celebrating women has never been limited to a single day, It is reflected in the work we do every day.

Across our scholarships and programs, over 60% of our fellows are women and girls, a deliberate commitment to creating access, opportunity, and transformative futures. When a woman is empowered through education, mentorship, and opportunity, entire communities rise with her.

To every mother, guardian, mentor, sister, and young girl daring to dream:
Thank you for your strength.
Thank you for your courage.
Thank you for shaping the future.

Today and always, we celebrate women not only in words but through action.

A moment from the Leadership Conference, as our Chair, Mrs Tsitsi Masiyiwa, took to the stage.
Leadership is often defined in words. It is also revealed in presence, conviction, and consistency.

For nearly three decades, Higherlife Foundation has worked alongside communities to build opportunity where it matters most. Our approach is simple, but intentional: invest in people, strengthen systems, and uphold dignity at every step.

From the 4th to the 5th of May 2026, our Chair, Mrs Tsitsi Masiyiwa, is speaking at The Leadership Conference 2026 in London, joining global leaders to reflect on leadership in a rapidly changing world. Her voice and presence reflect the values that have shaped our work from the beginning: service, responsibility, and a deep commitment to people.

The impact you see here is not accidental. It is the result of sustained investment in education, health, livelihoods, and resilience across Africa.

We invite you to watch, reflect, and learn more about who we are and the work we continue to do.

At the launch of And Still We Rise, leaders, partners, and scholars shared powerful reflections on the impact of Higherlife Foundation.

Their voices remind us that this story is not just about a book but it is a collection of stories about lives transformed, opportunities created, and communities strengthened over decades of service. This impacts generations

The journey continues.

When you empower a girl, you don’t just change her story, you rewrite the future of generations.

At the heart of this impact is Ms. Petronella Maramba, the Executive Director and Trustee of Higherlife Foundation, a leader committed to uplifting women, mentoring young girls and creating pathways to opportunities.

This Women’s Month, we honour her journey and all women accelerating change in their communities.

In 2008, joined the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship as a young student with a dream to make a difference. Through dedication and opportunity, he went on to study medicine at the University of Zimbabwe and equipped himself with the knowledge and skills to serve.

Today, he is saving lives in Botswana as part of the team at Medical Rescue International.

His journey is a powerful reminder that the Joshua Nkomo Scholarship is more than financial support but rather a pathway to leadership, service, and impact across Africa. You can read more about his story in the new book “And Still We Rise”, co-edited by our Chair, Tsitsi Masiyiwa, together with our PCEO, Elizabeth Tanya Masiyiwa. Place your order now.
