Your 2027 Personal Diary

Charles Mungoshi wrote: things are happening here & there: whether you can see them or not, you can't certainly say the old man cannot see them.
It's been over a year family & colleagues since I posted on this platform but I have been posting & pondering daily in my heart.

In 2025 the US Government drastically cut donor funding in line with its so-called America First policy. What has this done to PWDs most of whose needs have traditionally been left to donor support.

The PVO Amendment Act which brought a raft of good & bad changes to the Principal Act was promulgated in April. What does this amendment mean to organisations of PWDs

The Deeds Registry Regulations one of whose intentions was ostensibly to digitalise the Deeds office & increase the security of Title Deeds became liw a few months later.

In November the much awaited , albeit high sounding nothing, Persons with Disabilities Act, which repealed the obsolete Disabled Persons Act was signed into law. Several voices have spoken on this supposedly progressive piece of legislation but we await a scholarly piece on the same.

The WHO announced the anticipated roll out of Lenacapavir, an injectable ART drug that will only require an injection twice a year instead of the daily pills. We want to see if there will be proper adherent levels.

The last half of 2025 saw the Development of the Zimbabwe HIV & AIDS Strategic Plan which will guide the HIV & AIDS national response from 2026 until the monumental year of our Lord 2030. Will you still be there then. Have Persons with Different Abilities been included in this Strategy.

Eish! I have a lot to say but my message to you as well as my fellow compatriots with different abilities is that the supposed joys & real sorrows of 2025 are over but our fate in 2027 is in our hands. Long live Persons with Different Abilities

I wish you all a mission-fillrd 2026. May God bless you all abundantly

World Children Day

Matthew 19:13-14
[13]Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
[14]But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

Children, in their diversity, occupy a special place in God's heart. Not surprisingly we are told that except we become like them, we will not inherit eternal life.
Many have, regrettably, relegated the well-fare & training of their children to the periphery & have entrusted such a sacred responsibility on House Managers (popularly referred to as maids). The results have been a catastrophe of no little magnitude & most of the problems we face today are as a result of men & women who have put money & mammoth 1st & children last. Children with different abilities have unfortunately been the major casualties as as they tend to be disproportionately affected by a disintegrated family unit & a broken society.

As we commemorate Children's Day l, let us remember this:
Money we will always have but these little ones will not always be with us & oh how I wish we could make their well-fare & training a matter of our utmost priority.

Happy Children's Day

As I was making my way through Harare CBD earlier today, my attention was drawn to the Julius Nyerere Foot bridge close to Town House & Joina City (not that I haven't seen or used it before). This footbridge offers a safe crossage above J Nyerere Road & thus protects pedestrians from the City's marauding & usually dangerous traffic. The usually speeding commuter kombies & smaller Mushikashika vehicles make crossing the roads a menace, particularly for Persons with Different Abilites (PDAs). I can see the wheel-chaired lady trying to race across the busy roads: I can also see the man with a different visual impairment also struggling to navigate his way across these roads, with or without an aide & oh! how I wish there were many footbridges not only in Harare but in all the country's major towns & cities. To my knowledge, (i could be wrong) there is only one such Foot bridge in Harare, if not the whole country. Our urban centres would be a better & safer space, more so to PDAs, if there were many safe roads crossing bridges or points. This is my appeal to our leaders & authorities.

I had hoped to start this monday on an uncustomary positive note, but, I was disturbed by the obstacle posed by this sewer pipe open drainage (shown in the picture) that is running across 2 or 3 roads in this suburb of Harare. Apparently, this is a trench they intend to lay sewer pipes in that has been left uncovered or unfinished for over a week now. Of concern to me & I guess many other similarly minded &/or affected citizens is the fact that no public or private notice was given for this anticipated development & (perhaps more worrying) there is no sign indicating the existence of this road hazard. There is also no temporary crossing bridge to allow pedestrians, particularly those with different abilities, to easily cross over these dangerously deep trenches. This is a microcosm of the macrocosm of the many hazardous pits, holes, drains & trenches in many of our localities including right in the heart of city centres. It is not uncommon to find uncovered drains in town pavements with no efforts made to codone off the hazards from the unsuspecting public.
Mine is a plea to our authorities to protect the public, particularly those with different abilities, from such hazards through timely public notices & placing protective objects around these hazards.

Wrong assumptions

This morning I was the 1st to arrive at this meeting at a certain hotel & I'm seating at the very last back raw. People mistakenly associate the back raw with noise-makers & not-so-good to be individual but this is a wrong assumption. Because of my different visual ability (commonly referred to as visual impairment), i sit at the back raw because I want to be comfortable & be in control with my movements in & out of meetings without disrupting others. I sit at the back because I don't want to triffle over people's chargers whilst trying to make my way in or out of meetings. Because of our different abilities, we are comfortable and uncomfortable with certain things, practices and norms which, according to the "reasonable man' we should not be comfortable or comfortable with. Let us value our diversity.

World Inclusion Day & World Mental Health Day

Today, the world is commemorating World Inclusion Day as well as World Mental Health Day. Many, whether knowingly or unknowingly, are suffering from one Mental health or rather ill-health condition or another. Let us adopt healthy lifestyle practices which enhance our Mental health. In instances where we are strained & stressed by lufe's challenges let us learn to share with those we trust as well as seek professional counseling, where necessary.

Let us make our world better by embracing & valuing our diversity. Diverse in our backgrounds, diverse in our abilities, diverse in our preferences but united by our common goal to make the world a better place, regardless of our diverse social, economic, religious and other phenomena realities & circumstances.
