The Youth Engagement Initiative is in Marondera, where Plan International Zimbabwe is leading an impactful Youth Entrepreneurship Boot Camp.

Youth Policy FOR Young People, WITH Young People

Young people must not only be consulted about policies that shape their future we must be actively involved in shaping and strengthening them.

Over the past two days, the Yet Trust, NANGO Zimbabwe, NAYO and WELEAD Africa convened a Writeshop on the Zimbabwe Youth Bill, bringing together young people, Parliamentarians, government representatives, legal experts and civil society to critically engage with the draft Model Zimbabwe Youth Bill.

One of our YEI members also actively participated in this important process, contributing to the discussions and ensuring that youth perspectives were represented in shaping the Bill.

The discussions provided an important space to examine key areas that directly affect young people, including:

🔹 Governance & Access – Strengthening the mandate and effectiveness of the Zimbabwe Youth Council.
🔹 Economic Empowerment – Exploring ways to strengthen the Youth Empowerment and Development Fund.
🔹 Youth Service – Shaping an inclusive and meaningful framework for Youth Service Zimbabwe.
🔹 Equity & Inclusion – Ensuring that young women, young people with disabilities and other marginalized youth are meaningfully included.

For YEI, meaningful youth participation means moving beyond simply giving young people a seat at the table. It means ensuring that their voices influence decisions, policies and laws that affect their lives.

A strong Youth Bill should be inclusive, responsive and accountable and should create opportunities for every young Zimbabwean, regardless of gender, disability or location.

The future is not something we simply wait for. It is something we build, shape and legislate for today.

Let’s continue advocating for the enactment of the Zimbabwe Youth Bill and a future where young people are not just beneficiaries of policy, but active co-creators of it.

Today, Youth Engagement Initiative (YEI) joins young people across Zimbabwe and the world in celebrating International Youth Day. 💙

Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow we are leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, advocates and changemakers today. 🙌🏾

At YEI, we believe that when young people are given the right opportunities, skills, platforms and support, they can transform their communities and shape a better future.

From youth leadership and capacity building to SRHR, economic empowerment, mental health and climate action, we are committed to creating spaces where young people can learn, participate, speak up and lead.

Today, we celebrate every young person who continues to dream, create, challenge barriers and make a difference even when the journey is not easy. 💪🏾

Your voice matters. Your ideas matter. Your leadership matters. Your future matters.

As the day progressed during the World Population Day commemorationAnnie Mkandavirembers, Mr Anyway Mkandavire , had the honour of sharing the stage with His Excellency, the Child President Mr Tinashe Mugochi .He also served as one of the panellists, where he shared his entrepreneurial journey and the challenges he has faced as a young entrepreneur.

One of the key issues he highlighted was the skills mismatch between the education system and the labour market. Many young people graduate with academic qualifications but often lack the practical, technical, and soft skills that employers are looking for. As a result, many struggle to secure meaningful employment despite being qualified.

The discussion emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between educational institutions, employers, and policymakers to ensure that training programmes are aligned with current labour market demands. Greater investment in vocational training, digital literacy, entrepreneurship education, internships, and work-based learning can better prepare young people for the realities of today’s job market and equip them to create opportunities for themselves.

His contribution served as a powerful reminder that empowering young people requires more than education alone it requires equipping them with relevant skills, creating opportunities, and fostering an enabling environment where they can thrive.

Florence recently participated in our Capacity Building Training, where she gained valuable knowledge in Financial Policy, Strategic Planning, and Human Resources (HR).

Through this training, Florence strengthened her understanding of effective organizational management, sound financial practices, and strategic decision-making skills that will help Youth Engagement Initiative continue to grow, serve, and create meaningful impact for young people.

🌟 Investing in Young Leaders! 🌟

We are proud to share that some of our youth members recently participated in the Youth Economic Empowerment, Advocacy and Climate Action Bootcamp organized Yet Trust in partnership with Plan International Zimbabwe under the Safe and Inclusive Cities Project.

The bootcamp provided a valuable platform for young people to strengthen their leadership skills, enhance teamwork, and gain knowledge in youth economic empowerment, advocacy, and climate action. Through interactive sessions and networking opportunities, participants were empowered with the tools and confidence needed to lead with purpose and contribute positively to sustainable community development.

We extend our sincere appreciation to trust and Plan International Zimbabwe for organizing this impactful initiative and for investing in the growth and empowerment of young leaders. We are currently engaging in a dynamic Linking and Learning Workshop, that bringing together young people, parents, youth-led organizations, and faith-based representatives to share experiences and insights.

Powerful conversations are unfolding around positive masculinity, with participants reflecting on how gender-transformative interventions are driving meaningful behavior change among young adolescents.

We are also unpacking the realities and impact of gender-based violence on young people, while creating a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, learning, and collective action.

Together, we are strengthening community voices and building a future grounded in equality, respect, and empowerment 🔥🔥
