1. Resilience is the 5am backache you don't complain about—because the queue at the borehole waits for no one.

2. Resilience is the calluses on your palms that have become softer than your government's promises.

3. Resilience is carrying 20 litres on your head and still having the neck strength to turn around and check if your child crossed the road safely.

4. Resilience is walking 6 kilometres with a bucket and still having the lung capacity to sing—because if you stop singing, you might start crying.

5. Resilience is bladder control. You drink less so your child can drink more. You learn to hold—water, tears, and frustration.

Pause. Breathe. Reclaim.

For two days last Thursday and Friday, we created a sanctuary for 10 phenomenal women—the backbone of our community and the Women4Water movement.
We know the reality: wake up before dawn, walk for water, care for the children, cook, clean, fetch again. The unpaid care work never stops. But for a few precious hours, we asked them to put down their heavy loads—physically and mentally.
We laughed. We shared meals. We held space for tears and for triumph. We reminded these fierce mothers, sisters, and leaders that their wellbeing is not a luxury—it is a necessity. You cannot pour from an empty bucket, and you cannot fight for water justice if you are running on empty.

To our 10 warriors: Thank you for trusting us with your time and your hearts. We see you. We value you. Now, go forth renewed.

💬 Drop a 💧 if you believe rest is a right, not a reward.

"It's just a bucket."
That's what people who have never queued for water will say.
But this bucket has carried more than water.
It has carried children who missed school because they had to fetch water before sunrise.
It has carried women who had to spend the night queing at water points.
It has carried girls who were harassed and assaulted on lonely paths to boreholes and taken advantage of by borehole marshals.
It has carried families through cholera outbreaks, dry taps and broken promises.
It has carried dreams delayed because hours spent searching for water are hours stolen from education, work, business and rest.
Water should never be a privilege determined by your postcode.
Yet every day, thousands of Zimbabwean women wake up not asking "What will I achieve today?" but "Where will I find water today?"
This is not resilience.
This is survival.
And survival should never become government policy.
Every empty bucket is a question.
Who failed to deliver the most basic human right?
Every full bucket is another question.
Why did someone have to suffer just to fill it?
Water is more than infrastructure.
Water is health.
Water is safety.
Water is economic justice.
Water is dignity.
Until every household turns on a tap and clean water flows consistently, our work is not finished.
Because .

On Friday, Women4Water hosted an Artivism Expo in Harare, creating a safe and creative space for women to express their lived realities around water access and sanitation challenges.

Through art, storytelling, and dialogue, women highlighted the daily burden of water insecurity. One participant shared the heartbreaking story of her 14-year-old daughter, who was abused and impregnated while fetching water—a painful reminder that water injustice is also a women's rights and protection issue.

Participants also raised concerns about proposed prepaid water meters, fearing they could deepen poverty and limit access to a basic human right. The continued flow of sewage in communities was described as a growing public health crisis that demands urgent attention.

The Artivism Expo offered more than a platform for advocacy—it provided an opportunity for healing, reflection, and collective action. Through creativity, women transformed their experiences into powerful calls for dignity, accountability, and water justice.

Water is life. Water is dignity. Water is a right.
