Pahukamahwedu Youth Association Zimbabwe statement on the Day of the African Child!

On this Day of the African Child, PaHukamahwedu Youth Association stands in solidarity with children across Africa, advocating for their rights, education, and well-being. As we commemorate this important day, we recognize the potential and promise that African children hold. Their energy, creativity, and resilience inspire us to work tirelessly towards creating a brighter future for them, where they can grow, learn, and thrive.

We believe that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and protection. We envision a future where African children are empowered to become the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow, driving innovation, progress, and positive change.

As PaHukamahwedu Youth Association Zimbabwe, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and amplifying the voices of African children. We call on governments, organizations, and individuals to join us in this endeavor, working together to:

- Ensure every child has access to quality education, empowering them to reach their full potential.
- Provide healthcare and nutrition support, safeguarding their well-being and development.
- Protect children from exploitation, abuse, and violence, creating a safe and nurturing environment.

Let's invest in Africa's future by investing in its children. Together, we can create a brighter, more equitable world for all.

Because of my pursuit in the highest level of education it seems possible to achieve my dream of becoming a psychologist. I believe every girl deserves a chance to learn and be able to achieve their dreams. In this technological era we need degrees and certificates to verify our intelligence or capabilities to prove we can work efficiently . Women and girls nolonger play minor roles in the society such as housewives but are doctors, lawyers and are even at the highest social statuses such as presidents. No girl just wants to be a housewife prone to domestic abuse and discrimination.
Therefore l Makanaka Nyabonde speak for all the girls out there when I say we deserve to be educated and carry potential to become great.

Menstruation is not a taboo, it's a natural part of life. Let's honor the natural process of menstruation and work towards a world where every girl and woman feels supported and respected during her periods. Remember, understanding your body is the first step to empowerment.

We're honored to have added our voice to the UNESCO Global Youth Outlook in Harare, focusing on Youth Mental Health in Times of Crises in Southern Africa. From May 6-7, 2025, young people from Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Zambia gathered to discuss the mental health challenges we face due to economic hardship, including unemployment stress, lack of support systems, and the pressures of hustle culture.

Our candid conversations highlighted the need for policymakers to prioritize youth mental health. The insights gathered will inform UNESCO's inaugural Global Youth Outlook report, launching in November 2025. This report serves as a call to action, emphasizing the importance of addressing youth mental health. With 75% of mental health conditions emerging before age 24, it's crucial we take action now.

We're grateful to the UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa and the inspiring young individuals who shared their experiences. Together, we're creating a future where mental health is valued, visible, and funded. We're not just sharing our stories – we're driving change.
