🕊️LAKE KARIBA BOAT TRAGEDY
All Women Advocacy (AWA) joins 🇿🇼 in mourning following the heartbreaking boat disaster on .
As an organisation dedicated to the rights, safety, and wellbeing of female s*x workers, we are profoundly impacted by this tragedy. The vessel was bound for fishing camps like Chalala a well-known hotspots where many mobile s*x workers travel to sustain their livelihoods.
Because of the high mobility of s*x work and the widespread use of pseudonyms/working names for safety and privacy, identifying affected women presents unique challenges. Relatives and friends back home may not always know where a loved one is working or by what name she is known locally.
We cannot allow any woman to become invisible.
Our Urgent Call to Action:
📌To Authorities & Emergency Responders: We urge that search, rescue, and identification efforts remain gender-sensitive. We call for transparent, regular updates explicitly detailing how many women were on board, how many have been rescued, and how many remain missing.
📌 To Friends, Peers, and Relatives: If you know of a woman, sister, or colleague who traveled toward Chalala or other Kariba fishing camps recently, please reach out to check on them. Help us connect working names (pseudonyms) to legal identities so every family gets answers.
📌 To Community Members & Survivors: Share any information—no matter how small—with support networks or local authorities to assist in accounting for everyone involved.
Every woman has a story. Every woman has a name.
Every single woman must be accounted for.
