The Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary, founded and run by trustees Sarah Carter and veterinarian Dr Vinay Ramlaul, is a rescue and rehabilitation centre offering a safe haven to a wide variety of wildlife, farm and domestic animals and birds. For those creatures who cannot be rehabilitated into the wild, Twala provides a forever home for the animals and birds rescued from all over Zimbabwe. From lions

to meerkats, donkeys to owls, Twala's beloved animal family will live the lives they so deserve in our care at Twala.

You want volunteering to be an authentic and unique experience. You want to volunteer with a small group of like minded people to support an ethical animal sanctuary. You want to be a part of genuine community outreach work that has proven long-term impact. And you want to have a safe, comfortable and supportive environment to volunteer in. That's what The Twala Trust Animal Sanctuary volunteer experience gives you: A maximum of 5 volunteers at one time because our focus is on the wellbeing of the wild and domestic animals in our care. An established and reputable community outreach programme based on respect and understanding of the community we live and work in. Unwavering focus on the best quality of life for our rescued animal residents. And a home from home for our volunteers, with a spacious and well equipped volunteer house, individual bedrooms, full housekeeping, vegetarian and vegan menus, good WiFi, and a support team who are there for you from the moment you arrive in Zimbabwe. Contact us on [email protected] or DM us for details.

Scrappy ❤️ Our little miracle who survived a massive head injury and is now thriving at Twala. Scrappy is a genet, a small superpredator who will grow up to be a wily nocturnal hunter. But for now, he's just a baby who needs a whole lot of love, and he's in the best place for that.

When you've welcomed the same wonderful volunteers to Twala for 7 years in a row, they become a part of the family. Thank you once again to Roland, Monique and Conny for another month of happy times at Twala. We are already looking forward to the next time!

Sylvie and Reg love the bouquet of greenery they get every day as part of their enrichment - lots of interesting smells, and it tastes good too!

Little Miss Big Ears ❤️ Sylvie the serval kitten was attacked by dogs on a farm. She has a broken tail and damage to her pelvis but she is safe and getting the care she needs at Twala. She was fortunate to be rescued by the farmer, who took such good initial care of her.
