As Combined Gokwe Residents and Rate Payers Association we have petitioned Zimbabwe Electricity Distribution Company’s (ZETDC) over the recent change of payment procedures for purchasing electricity from ZETDC.Under the new provisions, residents must bank cash USD payments then get tokens the following day. As residents, below are our concerns over the new payment provisions;
1. Inconvenience: The procedure is time-consuming and inconvenient, requiring residents to make an additional trip to the bank.
2. Promoting change money vendors: This system inadvertently promotes the activities of change money vendors, which is not in the best interest of our community.
3. Lack of bank accounts: Many residents do not have bank accounts, making it difficult for them to comply with this new procedure.
4. Lack of communication: Residents were not informed of this change in procedure, and it is only being communicated at the counter.

Today the Combined Gokwe Residents and Rate Payers Association (CGRARPA) on behalf of residents submitted a petition to Gokwe Town Council. In the petition we highlighted the following;
1. Housing Policy: Residents are inquiring about the existence of a housing policy. If it exists, Council must provide details on its contents
2. Quarterly Budget Review: Residents demand a quarterly budget review with the Council, where the budget allocation and expenditure are clearly explained. We request that this review be conducted in a transparent and inclusive manner.
3. Evaluation Roll: The evaluation roll has been a subject of confusion among residents. We kindly request a full explanation on how it works, including the methodology used for evaluation and how it affects residents.
